Guest guest
Melinda, While (age 12, autism) has had lots of peeing issues and gone through a barage of tests, she doesn't do exactly what your daughter does. has an enlarged bladder. She used to hold her pee for 2 days at a time!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, not fun nor funny. She doesn't do this anymore thank God. Me, on the other hand, has had the problems you discussed relating to your daughter peeing a lot and peeing frequently when she goes to bed to lay down. I went through a barage of tests and surgery. My problem was diagnosed by a " Uro-gynocologist " . She said I had " uretha dysfunction " . I do have an enlarged bladder but that was not the problem with the peeing a little and peeing a lot when laying down. She says that because I have this problem, that my uretha relaxes when I lay down. Thus making me want to go. Sometimes not emptying like I am supposed to. She did strap up my fallen bladder but this has not fixed my problem. She says that I should use a cathetor that you carry around with you. I have not since my surgery (2003) gotten the courage to use this. I have resorted to taking a sleep aid at night to prevent me from getting up so much and peeing. There is a test they could perform on your daughter. It is uncomfortable. First you show up after drinking a lot of water. Then they catheterize you and get you to release all the pee. Unfortunately, I was not able to do this. They had to stop before they permanently hurt me in this test. I think I was over 700. There was someone else that could hold more than that. I could not at all pee with the cathetor in me. Just offering my 2 cents. Sometimes it is not worth much. Shanna Good luck in finding help and keep us posted. She tends to perseverate endlessly on things people have told her she can't do and the rules around things. She still, for example, talks about things that happened eight or ten years ago, goes through periods when she will fixate on things people said to her that she considers negative or " scolding " . Through the last four or so years she's had several periods of time when she would pee ALOT. Small amounts, many many throughout the day and continuing for maybe the first hour or so after she goes to bed ( she'd get up three to five times to pee). During each of these " Pee periods " I've had her tested for UTI, diabetes, etc. etc. and the docs have never found anything. She was treated once for spasms of the urethra with no result. Once I even decided to go ahead and treat her AS IF she had a UTI ( though she tested negative). No result. The conclusion the docs and I came to is that she pees frequently when anxious and/or when she has possible urethritis (an irritated urethra). During those " Pee periods " I put some white vinegar in her bath in case it is urethritis to help restore her acide/alkaline balance. These periods always end. She is in one of her " Pee periods " right now, and has tested negative for UTI, etc., but there is a complicating factor. She has recently discovered masturbation. I have told her that this touching is something private, appropriate for the bedroom or her playroom ( which is hers alone), and that she needs to use good hygiene, etc. I do not want to make a big deal of this or make her feel bad about it in any way, especially since she is not inappropriate with it thus far. ( As an aside, I have not used the word masturbation with her for, though I believe mightily in educating people about their bodies, she tends to repeat certain things endlessly and to anyone and everyone, and I don't want to put her and maybe me through the reactions that may ensue if she starts using that term with everyone and begins perseverating on how people respond. So it is " private touching " for now). Here's the thing: I think her keen interest in " private touching " , while very normal for her age, is contributing to possible irritation and thus her latest round of frequent urination. Question: has anyone had a similar experience and can you shed light on how to deal with it sensitively and without creating something my daughter will perseverate on for years? Does anyone else have any experience with frequent peeing with or without the complicating factor I've mentioned? Thanks in advance for any input. Guest guest
Melinda, I guess my first thought is that since she had the urinating episodes prior to the masturbation, I wouldn't think it would " necessarily " be causing any problems now. Does she appear irritated in that region? I also had my pelvic floor rebuilt last summer. I had the test Shanna's talking about. I tested normal, but the surgery has significantly helped me. I have found that drinks containing caffeine are my problem now, don't know if your daughter drinks colas or coffee or anything like that. Does she sit on the commode for a while before getting up? Sometimes that can give the bladder time to relax and release the rest of the urine. Also, if she is having minor infections, taking a daily dose of vitamin C, I think it's at least 1,000 mg, can sometimes prevent infections. It helped my grandmother for several years, she keeps them constantly now because she stopped taking it. BTW, I don't blame you on the word thing! People are very uptight about that sort of thing. Guest guest
Hi Melinda, I don't know if this will help with your daughter or not. But for myself, I have been diagnosed with overactive bladder. I am on medication and it does help however, there are still times when I have the " peeing " problem. When I get stressed, I have to pee. Like today for example, the vet told me my cat tested positive for FIV (the kitty equivalent to HIV), immediately I had to pee. So perhaps anxiety does have something to do with it for your daughter. But I have also noticed in myself that the week before my period starts, I have to pee a lot as well. Why? I don't know. Anyway, I don't know if that helps or not. Good luck. Carol EbuyerMTC@... wrote: Hello Group, My daughter is 14. She is on the spectrum, has OCD in varying degrees, has a history of anxiety. Guest guest
All this talk about peeing...my daughter started saying " ouch bum " and grabbing her privates...she had a couple almost accidents so i managed to get a sample and took her to the doctor today and sure enough, she has a urinary infection. I swear it is because she holds forever, that, and the fact she does not wipe well. Good luck with your pee issues, I am hoping ours are temporary!! > >Reply-To: Autism_in_Girls >To: Autism_in_Girls >Subject: Re: Sensitive topic related to puberty--can >anyone offer suggestions? >Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2007 13:58:28 -0800 (PST) > >Hi Melinda, > I don't know if this will help with your daughter or not.
