With this all of us are now in danger of not being able to sell our milk, even in a State that it is legal. While the big guys will be able to pedal their garbage to us without us knowing.

Raw Milk in Jeopardy!

This is just downright SCARY..I just knew our idiotic politicianswould try this, though. *sigh*Robin____WESTON A. PRICE FOUNDATIONACTION ALERTFebruary 24, 2006Protect State Food Safety Laws!Stop Deregulation of Food SafetyA bill is pending in the U. S. House of Representatives that wouldeliminate dozens of food safety laws. The bill, H.R. 4167, does thisby stripping away the power of states to regulate food safety. Here is how the bill works. Under the guise of promoting "uniformity"of food safety laws in the U.S., the bill requires all state foodsafety laws to be identical to the requirements of the Federal Foodand Drug Administration. If the FDA has not passed a regulation on afood threat, then all state regulations on that threat wouldimmediately be voided. And, since the states regulate manyfood safety issues not covered by the FDA, many food safety laws willbe voided and replaced with no law at all. For example, the billwould preempt California's Proposition 65, a very effective law thatrequires labeling of food products that contain cancer causingsubstances. IT WOULD ALSO HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE AVAILABILITYOF RAW MILK PRODUCTS.The "uniformity" to be achieved by the bill is in many instances theuniform absence of food safety regulation that the food industry seeks. This bill is a threat to the safety of the U.S. population and to therights of states to regulate food within the state. It is opposed bydozens of environmental health groups, by California's State AttorneyGeneral Bill Lockyer, the National Association of State Departments ofAgriculture, the Association of Food and Drug Officials, the NationalConference of State Legislators and the Wisconsin Departmentof Agriculture. There are currently 226 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives topass the bill in the House, so every letter is needed to ensure thatthese Representatives understand what a bad bill this is.CONTACT YOUR U. FYI:This is the name of the group of lobbyist that are pushing this legislation that would usurp local control of food. "National Uniformity for Food Coalition" They have an informative website listing their supporting members. Very informative. What grabbed my attention was the incredible number of specific lobbying groups that are out their pushing for their own special interest. I don't consider myself politically naïve, but even this listing surprised me. They are well oiled on this bill. I have sent a personal letter to my congressman (his office blocks all emails. Originally he only accepted emails from constituents, but even that is blocked now).
