I was referred to this group from a parent in another online group. Thanks for " ok-ing " me! My daughter, Sue, is on the autism spectrum; considered high functioning. She's just 8 years old but is very tall (5'2 " ) and into puberty. Poor kid's not just the tallest kid in 3rd grade, she's the tallest kid in her school! I feel sort of lost with her at times. It's really hard to remember she's just 8 years old, with many of the characteristics of a 6 year old! LOL! Anyone else have really tall, big kids? Her brother is 9 years old, has HF Aspergers and is almost a foot shorter. I'm so looking forward to conversing with the group. Thanks! Guest guest
Hello Viv! Wow that is tall at 8 years old. Have you taken her to an endocrinolgist to get some testing on her glands? How much does she weigh? Welcome to the group! These people here have been my 2nd family. They have helped immensely. Tell us more about Sue. We love to hear. Guest guest
Hello Viv, My daughter is also very tall. She's going to be 11 in one month and is soooo much taller than even alot of adults. If I had a nickel for everytime someone commented on how tall she is, we'd be rich. I also have to stop and remember that although she's almost as tall as me, she's only a little girl. Sometimes, I forget and try to give her more information than she can absorb. The good side of being so tall, I hope, will be that people (boys in particular) may be intimidated by her size and think twice about taking advantage of her down the line. Her Dad is 6'3 " ! Guest guest
Abby is 9 and she & I are both 5'ft and weigh the same. is tall-6'1. We took Abby to an endocrinologist and everything came back fine. I think the hormones in the food are playing a big factor with a lot of our girls. Guest guest
Hey Viv, welcome. Have you had her checked for precocious puberty? I just posted something about testosterone, Dr. Geier has found some girls with autism have too-high testosterone which in turn triggers other hormones to go overboard to try and counteract, makes early puberty. So strange, seems kids with autism are either abnormally small or abnormally large. Does anyone have a very typically-sized child? Debi > > Hi, I'm Viv.
