Hello guys,

my name is Ro' and I am a 35 yrs old girl living in

Pisa, Tuscany, Italy and my intro will be long so sit

down and get comfortable :)

My interest in raw milk is the consequence of the fact

that I have a very very very rare disorder called

Intestinal Lymphangiectasia.

Only 1,200 people in the WORLD have it. IL basically

is a lack of ability of my bowel lymphatic vessels to

absorb fats, which comes with huge pain, diarrhea up

to 16 times a day, swollen legs, compromised immune

system, weight loss and emotional distress from not

having a social life on top of it all.

The symptoms flared up on June 2004 and I was

diagnosed on September 2005. Thank G*d my family is of

Irish descent so I have no lactose intolerance.

Actually, french bread, tuna and huge amounts of milk

and dairy were what kept my muscle existing lol

After having been diagnosed I was told three things:

" get on a very low fat diet " , " remember to still eat

some omega3s " and " get to the ER when legs are so

swollen that your heart or lungs start messing " . Then

I got dumped on my own because there are no cure for

this disorder. I was let to figure out the " details "

of my everyday life could be.

I started with eating fat free food just to discover

that a lot of fat free isn't free of fats at all

(read: transfats and mono and dyglycerides of fatty

acids, which DO give me the same symptoms). I had also

noticed that some fats would bother me less than

others (read: omega3s). So, I started eating organic

both because they don't have preservative AND have a

much higher content in omega3s. It relieved my

symptoms but it still wasn't enough.

I had a bug that left me devastated for 16 days. I

couldn't even wear my shoes. In reading here and there

how to prevent bugs, I read about probiotics and their

action in preventing both diarrhea in general and

intestinal bugs in people with a compromised immune

system. So I figured I just had to try the probiotics.

I needed something able to put me on my feet soon, so

I got some probiotic envelops. But then I read that

kefir contained probiotics as well. As I realised the

envelopes were helping, I decided to give kefir a try.

I've been culturing and drinking kefir for the last 3

weeks and it really changed my life.

Now, I want to switch to raw cow milk (so far I've

used homogenized cow milk, coconut milk and just today

i've started goat milk kefir). Legislation is very

complex in Europe.. I've bugged everybody I knew, but

nobody here in Tuscany is selling raw milk like they

do in the North of the country and in Rome. However, I

did find some farmers that are about to sign a deal

with the region for a raw milk distributor and am

keeping my fingers crossed.

Just to complete the picture, I found out that

fermented food and beverages (such as white beer and

sauerkrauts) are a really divine help for keeping my

health. I also found out that I can eat raw food in

general, like uncooked meat and fish, despite the fact

that I was told not to, ever.

Thank you for reading so far :)

Ro,

I recommend you read "Milk Diet as a remedy for chronic disease" by Dr.

Sandor Porter. In it you will find details on the dietary

procedures that resulted in cures of a variety of diseases using raw

milk.

Best wishes,

Langlois

Hi Ro'

Sorry to hear about your health troubles.

Just want to tell you that in addition to all those great foods that you mention, you may also try the amino-acid L-glutamine.

It is great for all kinds of intestinal problems. Here is what it says on one of the sites I found:

Supplemental L-glutamine may have immunomodulatory, anticatabolic/anabolic and gastrointestinal mucosal-protective actions. It may also have antioxidant activity.

You can find the whole article here:

Good luck in finding a cure to your disease...
