Have you spent any time around cows? Is there anyone within easy driving distance who can give you hands on opportunity to feed, milk, etc...? You are absolutely right. We had an old Dairyman to come for a visit yesterday and he said everyone should go and help out at a Dairy before you buy a cow for at least 6 months and after that if you still want the cow and responsibility then go for it. He gave us a lot of good advice, This is how we have learned, from other Dairyman willing to help us. Like anything else you have to know the person whom you are talking to.
