Guest guest
, it's worth a lot to me. I suppose if you're independently wealthy, you won't need it. But, in my case, I just bought my month's supply of pain meds, MS Contin. It cost me $5, as do the rest of my standard meds. So far, in the month of January, I've spent $20.69 for $195.44 worth of meds. It saves me enough to make up for the monthly premium of $19.80, and of course, Medicare will take $93.50 for the standard premium that we all pay. That is unless you pick another plan than Medicare. So is it worth it? For me it is! The next thing I'll have to watch is when I approach the " Donut Hole " . I fell into it in December and had to pay full price for meds that month, but it won't happen again (I hope). I'm using Humana and get the meds at WalMart. That way, if we decide to travel anywhere, we can get our meds at another WalMart if we need to. I'll be glad when Betty gets her Medicare, her meds are out of pocket and expensive. Guest guest
Just had to share my 2cents worth on this subject. Prior to getting on Medicare and Plan D, I was receiving MOST of my meds from the Pharmaceutical companies since I had no insurance and certainly could not afford to buy my meds. Then, I got Medicare after being on Disability for 2 yrs, then along comes Plan D. Well, I went from FREE yes totally FREE drugs to the tune of about $900 a month, to paying a percentage. Because I qualified at one time for Tenncare, then I was put on a " special " program thru Humana and Plan D that allowed me to get my meds for $3.00 for Brand and $1.00 for generics. I continued that in 2006 until August, when I was notified that due to adding Humira to the cocktail I'm receiving, I met my catastophic amount so from the middle of August until Dec 31, 2006 I would receive ALL MY MEDS FOR FREE....yeppers...not one red cent. So, as of Jan 1st, I'm back on the $1.00/$3.00 only up until the governor of Tennessee kicks me off Tenncare...at that point I will be in the same boat as everyone else in that I will have Standard Humana (as long as I'm on Tenncare I can't purchase anything BUT STANDARD), so the moment I go off Tenncare I will then be thrown in that pool of percentages and then of course the dreaded GAP coverage whereas 0-2250 I pay 25%, then 2250-3600 I pay 100% (how in the world am I suppose to pay $1400 worth of prescriptions on a $1100 a month income?????) then after $3600 then I would reach catastrophic again and go to zero. Does any of this make sense????? So for now...the moral of my story is..Please Governor, don't kick me off Tenncare....I have several diseases that I require 10 meds or more a month and there's not one of them that I can say..oh well I don't have the money to buy that one this month so I can eat!!!! Take care everyone, Lyn In constant pain even with the big time drugs!!! > > , it's worth a lot to me. I suppose if you're independently wealthy, > you won't need it. Guest guest
Dennis, You know I have heard where they made a local lady here in Texas. She died and the state took everything. Made her family sell of her old raggy trailerhouse and any other real property to get back what they had spent on her. I have heard from many seniors...when they reach the point they transfer everything into a family members name...and then pay rent to that person at least on paper so there is NOTHING to take upon there death. Some even pre-pay for all funeral costs and have very little if any life insurance...just enough to cover final expenses....just so the government can not take everything. Its sad that people have to resort to such measures. I say they need to start garnishing wages and taking back all the welfare money spent on all these unwed teenage mothers...my hubby has family that is 3 and 4 generation welfare because its easier to get a check than get out and work. This may not be true in all cases, so you need to check for yourself. And here in Texas, we are reminded regularly that any state spent moneys through Medicaid will be taken from our estate. I guess I won't have to worry about that since I've only received a food stamp card worth $10 per month and haven't even wasted my time using it. Guest guest
The only way this government is going to take care at giving us a REAL healthcare system is if THEY have to go it. We should be allowed to vote their healthcare, their raise, and their pension. Instead, THEY vote for US and we get screwed. It doesn't matter who is in office, they are all looking out for each other...Marina > > Joyce, > > It's doesn't matter who is in office, it's all feel good legislation. Guest guest
Here in CA, if you are in long term care paid for by Medi-Cal and cannot afford private pay for your care, the state can seize your assets. Putting those assets in a family member's name will not exempt it from seizure, unless the name transfer took place more than three years prior to your admittance to long term care. As a former nurse working in long term care, more than once I've had to deal with the aftermath of the state informing some little frail elderly person that everything they've worked for all their lives is gone. It's absolutely heartbreaking. More than once I've seen an elderly person in this position just flat lose the will to live and be gone within days after finding this out the hard way, with no medical reason for dying. There's a huge difference between 'legal' and 'moral'. Guest guest
She was on medicare and medicaid due to income. They attempted to make her family sell everything so they couldhave the money after her death since the state paid to care for her. The family gave away everything except for the real property just to piss of the state of texas. He nephew is a rebel....but it was said cause he watch the government suck his aunt dry cause she was sick. She finally gave up and died. It was very said. Now I know why people " sell " everything and go into a retirement community. That way there is NOTHING to take! Toni
