Guest guest
Carl, I appreciate your questions and the scenarios you gave in support. " ...What determines the area of competence within which a certified individual can ethically perform work? Second, what can they do which is representative of that certification? Or should the additional work be conducted under the auspices of the additional certification, designation or training? " " What functions are a CIAQ, CIE, CMR, CRMI, PE or (my favorite) NASCAR qualified to ethically perform within the authority of the structure that grants them their specific certification? Are any certifications universal in scope or do all have limitations? " " There should be an equivalent structure regarding, at a minimum, regulatory vs habitability issues of the built environment. The closest I can see, and this is a stretch, is the current debate between a real estate pre-purchase inspection and an IAQ inspection during the real estate inspection process. " The basic question of WHO should do WHAT, and subsequently how do we verify their qualifications and limitations. These are important questions to answer within the industry to the benefit of achieving a stronger standard of care and integrity. I believe that it is also very important to be able to clarify for consumers. Though it is a grueling process to come to a consensus, I believe that it is to our benefit to police these concerns within the industry rather than waiting for or expecting the government to be our savior. Part of the problem is that many of us forget that we are competitors but not enemies and we can consult one another to a great benefit to our industry as a whole and our businesses individually. We need to create professional partnerships locally and nationally.
