Guest guest
- If you don't mind me asking, what is your background? Why do you want a " certification " and given your lack of experience in remediation, would you feel comfortable doing a job today that was involved in some sort of litigation? Would you feel competent performing a remediation in the home of a child with severe asthma? Is your need for a " quick " certification for your " customers " ? Who will it benefit? Do you feel it would put your clients " at ease " ? How will you train your workers? Will your workers be " certified " ? Will you be able to understand a consultant's protocol? Will you always use biocides and encapsulants? Will you never use them? I hate to play devil's advocate here, but there is a whole to consider, not to mention that when you start your remediation company, many things will be at stake - the occupants health and safety, liability issues, your workers health and safety, structural integrity questions, etc. etc. etc. If it's a " certificate " you want, especially from some entity out there playing the " I'll trade you paper for some money game - and sell you a frame too! " why don't you just print one off your own computer, give yourself some fancy initials, and make yourself Mayor of New York for a day too while you’re at it! Really, I'm sorry if I'm coming across as being harsh, but thanks to a " one day certification wonder " company, my family and I were out of our home for 8 months and lost nearly everything we owned, which launched me down this fabulously crooked path in the first place… Something which isn’t easily forgotten – trust me. Did that company who didn't know what they were doing affect my life in a very bad way? Yep. Are they still doing it? Yep. Do I get called in as a consultant after them on a regular basis because they screwed something up? Yep. At least now I can be part of the solution... When I decided this was my path, I studied like crazy. I attended conferences, I read books, I worked in the field making hardly any money, I picked people's brains relentlessly, and I studied some more. I will still readily admit that there is so much I don't know - but work at knowing more every day. I did not start working with clients until I had wrapped my head around the industry, if you will, and knew that I would never let my ego get in the way of protecting a client if I didn’t have the answer. Okay I'm done. Just understand that this is serious stuff and you have absolutely no business doing this if you don't know what you're doing. If you DO know what you're doing, feel free to tell me to piss off and I'll buy you a shot of tequila at a conference sometime! The Ever Feisty, Ms. Champion Stacey Champion Owner/Consultant Champion Indoor Environmental Services Opening Mold Remediation business Hi, I am planning to go into the Mold Remediation business in NJ. I was discussing and spending several months with a company in Ohio to bring that operation down here but things have not worked out. I am taking the IAQA CMR course in 2 weeks. Given my experience, IAQA will not give me certification for 8 months to a year. I am also planning to take a course or 2 with some other Mold Certifying courses that give certifications a lot easier. I want the IAQ because I think they can provide me with the best education but to get the company going faster I want a certification. One problem that I am running into is that in getting insurance as a mold remediator. IAQ can provide a company called Legends but they will not give me insurance until I am certified with IAQA. Can anyone suggest other companies that I can go to where I can get insurance as a mold remediator. Also, does anyone know of people who are looking for work in central NJ as mold workers? I appreciate any help or advise. Thank you. Howserv06
