Hi everyone, it was such a pleasure seeing so many of you at Philly - I don't post much lately, but I had this phone call today that I need to ask for help with.

Mom - to a 4 mth old nursing boy, works in hospital -- maternity ward, Nurse's Aide ( got my number from an LC that she works with that I am covering her pp for).

She was stuck with a needle on Wed March 3rd, immediately went through all the procedures, blood taken from her etc. She is on 3 differents meds while waiting for results, she didnt have the names and will be getting back to me with them, but we assume one is anti - HIV (antiviral), one is antibiotic and one is anti hep ( bare with me - I am not a nurse). She was instructed to pump and dump - heres the kicker----- FOR 6 MONTHS....

This poor woman is devasted... one to be going through this at all, sick from the meds ( I told her acidophilus might be ok for her stomach - was I right?)

and her baby roots towards her all the time... so sad !!!!

I of course said I would do some research for her, but to continue to pump and dump til I got her some solid research based info on her case.

I do know that HIV positive moms are now told they can breastfeed, but this is different. She works in maternity in a good neighborhood, I just wonder what her risks really are, its not like she is working in an ER with gang related trauma victims.

Please any evidenced based research is very appreciated, I already know what most of us feel - but that wont help her right now. She desperately wants to nurse again, baby even had a TT released and things had been perfect before this incident.

Thanks girls,

Donna :)
