Guest guest
I just scheduled my first flight since being diagnosed. Does anyone know what the procedures are for bring my medication? I was planning on just putting all my pills in the one week pill organizer and keeping it my purse. My sister thinks that I need to have all of the original prescription bottles with me. I plan to get a letter from my doctor stating my need for medication, I'm not sure if that is all I need. I am on 5 different things right now, and would just as soon leave all the bottles at home. Thanks:) Dianne
Guest guest
Diane, Yes, you need to take all your prescription bottles with you. You need to prove that they were prescibed to you with your doctor's name and pharmacy on the label. Otherwise, you may face legal problems if your meds are questioned by the law. I'm sure you aren't a drug dealer, but please take this precaution. Have fun on your trip! Kathy > > I just scheduled my first flight since being diagnosed. Guest guest
I am just going from Pittsburgh to Orlando:) My sister and I are taking our 4 kids ages 5-10, (only the 5 year old is mine:) to Disney World for a week to meet my other sister and her daughter. I am feeling really good right now and am praying that it continues through March 5th when I am scheduled to leave. I will probably play it safe and throw all of my pill bottles into a ziplock and into my carry-on. Thanks for all the info! Dianne
Guest guest
Are you traveling within the US? I went from Chicago to Arizona twice this year and only brought my daytime and nighttime pill organizers along with Norco in an unmarked bottle (the original one is huge). I was not questioned at all about any of them. A letter from the doc would be an additional benefit, but I had no problem getting through security. Make sure that you put any liquids or lotions (they have to be 3oz or less) in a clear plastic quart size baggie and keep that out in the open for security to check. Happy traveling! Guest guest
My daughter is a frequent flyer, before the tightened and since before the pump and after the pump. The first time with the pump she was a little worried but had no problem at all. You need everything in their containers with all the information that is generally on a prescription. She always revealed what she had before they found it. Sharps can be a potential problem if you do not have the documentation. They must be securely stored so they can't hurt anyone. She always tells them that she must keep them on her person and will not take them for storage. If you ever need glucose to raise the glucose if you go low Glucotabs are the best to have as food could be a problem. Be sure to reveal any such before they find it. A small bag with your meter and other supplies is the best way as everything is together. Happy flying Betty [ ] Re: traveling with RA . Guest guest
If you are traveling outside the U.S., especially if you are traveling to a developing natin (Europe is not so much of an issue) I would definitely make sure that all your meds were in clearly labeled (drug store) containers. You don't have to take your whole pill supply... the pharmacy will supply you with labeled, smaller bottles if you ask them. You can always bring along your pill organizer and set up your meds for everyday use when you get to your destination. It is better to be cautious than to have yur meds confiscated due to a misunderstanding, in a foreign country where they may not be easy to replace. This is particulary important if you are carrying any pain killers, especially those containing narcotics. > > I just scheduled my first flight since being diagnosed. Guest guest
Oh, yeah, traveling within the U.S. shouldn't be any problem at all, although they do suggest carrying on your meds in case of the " rare " <ha!> occassion that your checjed luggage goes astray. I travel frequently within the U.S. and have never been qustioned. Even with my injectable meds. One time recently, I forgot to put my MTX vial in my little zip-lock for security. I had it in my carry on, just not out for inspction. I asked them about it as I went through, just to avoid a problem... figured I could always pull it out if I needed to. They just wrote a note on my boarding pass that I was carrying liquid, injectable meds for RA, and I had no problem with that either. (on the way home, I did remembe to put it in my zip-lock just to make things easier. > >> > >> I just scheduled my first flight since being diagnosed. Guest guest
I've been traveling a lot recently, including internationally, so I called TSA to find out what they said. The lady said to be sure that all the meds were in the original bottles with the labels on them, and I should have no problem. Also, that any special bag I needed to keep the Humira cold, or for any other meds, would not count toward my cabin baggage allowance. I did get a letter from my doctor about my Humira just to be sure. The only time anyone has even looked at the meds was the Humira; the screener saw it and asked about it. His mother had RA, he'd heard about it, and wanted to know if it worked for me. We had a nice little conversation. Once, I even offered to pull out the meds, including the sharps, and was told not to bother. I have more issues with my laptop and camera gear than I do with my meds! Different airports seem to handle the regs differently. I frequently use LAX and Minneapolis, have had no problems at all either place. I always carry all my meds that I will need in my carry-on because I've had too many lost pieces of luggage to trust my meds to checked bags. Have fun on your trip, just be sure to get enough rest. A 5 year-old will wear you out at Disney World! But you'll love every minute of it. On 12/12/06, Dianneis30@... <Dianneis30@...> wrote: > > I just scheduled my first flight since being diagnosed.
