Guest guest
has always had myoclonic jerks. SHort and breif only a sudden jerk. That changed a week ago into jerks, cries then jerks. Today he had a jerk but he held it. His whole body was stiff for about five seconds then he let go and he was very limp (scary he was so limp) after that he had what looked like split second shocks , two of them. We called the neuro and have upped his Keppra. He hasn't had another one since this one around lunch today. He's also been having " shivers " after the usual myoclonic with teeth chattering afterwards with is also new. every time we called the neuro our instructions are to increase meds. He didnt turn red or blue when he was holding the jerk but it didn't look like he was breathing and when he finally went limp he was almost asleep but was crying. We are definatly going to see the Neuro on Monday if it happens again. We have handled the jerks very good but I don't think we will be very good at handling it when he has " the big one " and loses consciousness like what almost happened today. We are going to see the neuro but I would like some of your input on this. Guest guest
It sounds like a tonic seizure. They are NASTY. Crystal experiences at least one of those a day. She'll stiffen up then she'll jerk. It's not pretty & she cries while it's happening. It scares the bejesus out of her. We tried Keppra briefly, but it didn't do much to help her. She has been through pretty much every seizure med there is < sigh >... Take care all... Guest guest
Have to agree with here. also has these (about 1 a day at the moment) and we have been told they are tonic seizures. Sometimes screams through them, other times we lose him altogether. They whack him out completely and as they can last over 10 mins we sometimes have to administer rectal diazepam. We have just added Tegretol to 's topomax and for a week (a whole week!) did not see one - but he has now had them for the past three days. Everytime we think we're getting somewhere they return - I know that's not a terribly original thing to be saying on this site, but oh lordy it's hard to stay positive when he keeps being knocked back like this. Take care , and all the Ridley Boys RE: What Kind of seizure is this? 's doing something different It sounds like a tonic seizure. They are NASTY. Crystal experiences at least one of those a day. Guest guest
, I feel the same as you. Just when you think things are going well with the seizure control along comes some more. We've been battling seizures for quite some time now. My son is going to the neurologist tomorrow for a check up once again. I will have to report that nope, there still there. I do have a questions for all the parents that deal with seizures. Trevor had some break through seizures when we were trying to wean him off the Trileptal leaving him soley on Lamictal. The seizures he had caused him to bring his left arm up to his side with his hand closed. He is still doing this and its been close to 2 months since all of those seizures back around Thanksgiving. He still has about a seizure a week(that I know of). He did not do this before this bout of seizures. I wonder if he had some kind of damage to his motor planning. He did start having tremors in his hands about 5 yrs ago when he went status for 4 hours. Has anyone else had something like this happen to their child? Just trying to find out others that might have had this happen to them. Thanks, Donna(mom to Trevor, 9 years old PMG and BPNH, Agenesis of the corpus callosum, hydrocheylus and cyst on brain stem(new shunt placed 5/13/04), panhypopititurism, seizure disorder, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Cortical visual Impairment St. 's, Georgia
