If a mother with large, floppy breasts is having trouble managing the usual positioning tips, I show her how to make a breast sling from a long scarf - under her breast and around her neck. Unlike the $27 *Booby Booster* gadget,  you can do this without wearing a bra, and so get more skin-to-skin. I have also been know to tear a strip off an old clean sheet I keep for that purpose, instead of a scarf.

Has anyone used this product:  http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/2010/01/breastnest.html  It is called the " Booby Booster "

I would love to hear about anyone's experiences with this or similar products.

Thanks! -- Carroll, MA, IBCLC

Hi Norma -- I've been using the scarf method to make a sling but I live in an

area of the country where many mothers have a lot of disposable income to spend

on baby gadgets. I often try to convince moms to use items they already have

around the house rather than buying a " specialized " item but about half the

time, the moms look at me like I have a third eye. I always like to have

options for those types of moms who think they need six of every item on the

baby registry lists. It takes all types :)

What a great idea I don't think I have ever seen this with a scarf!

It's really the mom who will decide whether she wants to go for the high tech,

expensive, fancy gadget or a resourceful alternative. I try to give them both

options.

Like the hands free pumping bras. I tell them about how to convert a bra to

accommodate this and then where to find a device that is manufactured for this

purpose. Her choice.
