Guest guest
Afternoon all, Am just wondering. Has anyone looked into any type of natural therapies for their children? I have to admit to being very sceptical of these things but as traditional medicine hasn't exactly offered me much hope either, my scepticism is probably more a result of ignorance than anything else. One of my girlfriends, however, is very much into natural remedies/Chinese medicine and the like. She's been trying to get me to take Joshy (6 yrs) to a naturopath for a very long time but I have always resisted. Anyway, she finally convinced me to take him. After looking into 's eyes, the naturopath advised me that he had fluid on his left lung ( has always suffered with chest infections/pneumonia and he coughs like a heavy smoker). He also advised me that the right & left side of his brain were having alot of problems trying to communicate with one another. I was a little surprised at his confidence and sceptical of his assurances that he could do alot for Joshy. Anyway, he gave me two liquid formulations & a special healing cream to put up his nose & on any sores, bruises etc. He assured me that nothing he had prescribed would have a detrimental effect or interfere with any medication. That was four weeks ago. Since then I have been giving Joshy 1ml & 5mls of the liquid & an application of the cream, 3 times a day. He hates it (it really does smell foul) but I manage to get most of it into him. Anyway, the cream heals things so quickly, it's amazing. It has also greatly unblocked his sinuses. But the most amazing thing is that he hasn't (touch wood), had a single seizure " drop attack " for the past three weeks and his chest has dried up totally. I have arranged a follow up visit and am keen to see what he tells me this time. Does anyone have any other experiences - good or bad. I'm keen to know. Guest guest
I thought about taking my son to have acupuncture and other natural remedies. What is the name of the remedies that he has given your son! Dianna Natural medicine Afternoon all, Am just wondering. Has anyone looked into any type of natural therapies for their children? Guest guest
Tara, It's good that your neurologist is giving you the okay for the Cranial Sacral Therapy. My neurologist says they are crazy. I sometimes think he's the one who is crazy. It seems that all the doctors want to is push drugs drugs drugs. Well we all know the theory behind that right! Money, Money, Money! Where do you live I would like to get Grant involved in some Cranial Sacral Therapy, despite what his doctor says. Take Care! Guest guest
Dianna, I live in Sydney, Australia. My experience has been the same when it comes to doctors. I do not tell any of Joshy's specialists about the alternate therapies any more. There's nothing quite as belittle ling as a doctor chuckling at the suggestion that alternate therapies may in fact be of assistance. Amazing how stupid they make you feel as they dismiss you back to fairyland! spent his first two years on antibiotics & steroids to counter chest and ear infections. He'd just finish one course and then be straight back onto another. He was hospitalised and put on oxygen that many times it's just too scary. I hated it, his tiny little body fighting for every breath. I think I was almost in a permanent state of hysteria. But he's definitely a fighter. He never gives up and he's the first to smoother me with hugs and kisses when I'm reduced to tears (usually because I'm worrying about him!!!). But the whole medication thing became circular. The more I gave him the more he relied on it & the less resistant he became. His infections became more resilient and he started developing allergic reactions. (through overuse I'm assuming - not that the drs would ever admit it). He is now unable to take Ceclor or EES. But what really alarmed me was when I spoke to a carer at Joshy's preschool. She told me that, at age 7, her son with PMG, died of pneumonia. She firmly believes that it was because the antibiotics just didn't work on him anymore. The antibiotics could no longer kill the bacteria & he couldn't fight it. My heart broke for her and made me more determined for my own child. I'd certainly encourage you to explore other avenues & don't let your specialists mock you for it. He's your son. You know what works and what doesn't. Take care Tara Natural medicine Afternoon all, Am just wondering. Has anyone looked into any type of natural therapies for their children? Guest guest
Wow, the land down under huh!. Yeah, I know about the Pneumonia thing. Grant spent 5 days at Children's Hospital in Washington, DC and 3 of them were in Intensive Care Unit. They thought he had Pneumonia, but it just turned out to be some sort of virus. Some kind of virus they couldn't put a name to. But he was treated with antibiotics, and released and has been much better since. I think children who have PMG have lower immune systems, don't you! Grant is allergic to amoxicillin, the most common used antibiotic for ear infections, flu, sinus infections, etc. Sometimes I wonder why some of these doctors call themselves " Specialists " . Grant pulled through like a trooper as well, strong as ever. Maybe our children are especially strong willed children when it comes to illnesses. Anyway take care and thanks!
