, if your brain is *slow* then mine must be too :) The info was fantastic, but after a while I felt my eyes glaze over. Too much too quickly. That could easily have been two or more separate presentations.Did you fill out the survey? I did and asked if a complete version would be made available because of all the material lost during the sound blurps.

Hi all - I just finished listening to the USLCA webinar and find myself quite frustrated. The information was fascinating yet moved so quickly and had so much information on each slide that I had trouble absorbing it the way I would have hoped. Add in all the audio issues, the limited number of slides we were allowed access to via handouts and the inability to review the presentation again and I want to throw up my hands. Perhaps my knowledge base is just too low for this webinar but I think if I was able to listen to the presentation again, pause the presentation or repeat certain snippets, I would get a lot more out of it. I'm hoping all of this will end up published in the near future so I can absorb it at a pace my slow brain can handle.

Feeling grumpy,

Carroll

Norma -- I actually asked that question during the presentation and was

told would not authorize them to record the presentation and that

the handouts we got were it. I was hoping that we could use our webinar

log-in to have access to view / listen to it again but I don't think

that's going to happen. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt

overwhelmed (especially when the that someone is an extremely

knowledgeable LC like yourself)

I suppose I differ on this one - the audio difficulties were an issue, but I thought the pace was great; I think it's because, personally, I prefer to have a larger amount of information covered so that I gain some good base knowledge for my time, and then can go research particular aspects more fully if I wish. It was an excellent session, and she covered just about everything I hoped she would, answering a lot of the questions I've been wondering about. I took some notes, but found most of what I want to refer back to was included in the handouts. Just my take on it, but this was actually my very first USLCA webinar, so my two cents may not quite be worth that much ;) Unfortunately, I missed the first 15 minutes or so because my own nursling took forever to go down for her nap (you know how they can always sense it when you're trying to hurry them, right?!) :)KerriKerri Klugewicz, IBCLCkerriklugewicz@...PA, USASent from my iPhone

Hi again -- I found Barbara's address on the USLCA website and just sent her an email. Here is what I wrote:

Hi Barbara,

I was a participant in Marasco's Hormone Webinar this afternoon. When it concluded, I found myself feeling frustrated and published a post to my IBCLC in Private Practice Yahoo group about my experience. Jan Barger suggested I email you and share my concerns so I am following up on her suggestion.

The information presented was completely fascinating and I have been looking forward to this webinar since I first saw it advertised. However, there were a number of issues that made it less useful than I had hoped.

· First, there were audio issues that required the presentation to be stopped several times. Although did back up each time, I felt like I missed key information.

· Handouts were provided for the meeting yet included a limited number of slides, making it difficult to take notes on this complex subject.

· The presentation moved very quickly and was extremely information dense. Today's presentation could have easily been two or three webinars rather than just one. The pacing made it difficult to absorb the information. Please ask presenters to teach complex information at a tempo that makes it accessible to a variety of knowledge levels or at least note in the sign-up that the webinar is most suitable for those with advanced knowledge bases.

· When I asked during the webinar, I was told that I would not be able to view / listen to the presentation again. This is a major drawback! When the information is highly technical, contains many scientific abbreviations and each slide is very full, it would have been beneficial to be able to go back later, listen again, fill in all of my notes with half finished sentences and in general move more slowly so that I could gain maximum benefit from 's knowledge.

· If slides are going to be presented to participants in an abbreviated format, it would helpful if they were edited to provide summary information. While the slides were very interesting, without more complete notes, most of the slides are not going to help me when I go back three months from now to look at them when I have a patient with a potential hormone issue.

· The presentation contained many abbreviations that I don't use in my daily practice so each time used an abbreviation, I had to mentally pause and remind myself what it meant (for example SHBG = Sex Hormone Binding Globulin). A list of definitions or fewer abbreviations would be helpful.

· If a presenter is opposed to having a seminar recorded, please suggest she or he provide information about where participants can find more information (i.e. plans to publish, list of references, etc.)

Thank you for listening to my concerns. I appreciate the resources made available to us through the USLCA and will continue to take advantage of future webinars.

Sincerely,

Carroll, MA, IBCLC

This was my first webinar also, and I was pretty happy with the information and the pace. However, I am always left with the same question when it comes to hormone testing, which is what can we really do with the information? Other than thyroid issues which are a fairly “easy” fix, that is. I feel like I just end up with the same care plan which is maximize breast stimulation, consider herbs and try to get the doctor to consider a galactogogue. All this may work or it may not. That is the case both when prolactin is high and when it is low or when I don’t know what it is. I really enjoyed ’s presentation and enjoy having the background information, but does any of it change your actual care plan when milk production is low? Becky , IBCLCMilky WayLa Plata, MD

Hi I was on the Webinar today too. I

didn't get the e-mail to subscribe until today and didn't get any handouts

e-mailed in advance. I asked during the presentation if I could print out the

slides so I could take notes directly on the pages. I couldn't possibly keep

up with all of the information. I was told no dice. I would really like to

have had the PP in paper form as there were many medical terms and acronyms

that I would have like to write out in long hand. I started thinking maybe

this would have been better absorbed if I had fully researched the topic before

hand. Don't get me wrong it was a wonderful presentation I just couldn't keep

up with my note taking and now don't really have anything to go back to. I

haven't figured out how to get the handouts yet.

I did make a comment on the survey and I

sent a note to Barbara.

In the presentation she discussed that specifically and noted three reasons: sometimes there is a possible treatment, sometimes it's a learning opportunity (meaning, I imagine, that it we start paying more attention to these issues there might be more treatment options developed in the future), and yes, sometimes just to have a concrete reason to give the mom so she doesn't feel like she did something wrong or wonder if she "failed" her baby somehow.KerriSent from my iPhone

I felt the same way, what can we do. I think she did say that if anything it

could help the mother understand why she is not producing milk. I have friend

(LLLL) who has had to supplement all of her babies for reasons that are unknown.

This last baby she had her prolactin levels checked the doctor said everything

came back normal. The doctor did not do before and after nursing levels.

It would be interesting to see what the doctor said was normal.

Just so y'all know, it wasn't the USLCA that didn't want you to have audio for

later review. I spoke with about that, was not wanting her work out

there on audio. This is much like musicians not wanting their work on music

sharing sites. Unfortunately, the webinars audio sessions are not protected by

copyright laws like music is, and can be misused. I understand her motives

although I may be frustrated that there wasn't audio for the paying participants

to go back to.

The audio troubles were 's and not the site's. But, all in all, I gained a

lot more than expected. This talk really was a supplement to & West's

Book. You can delve more deeply there if you feel jipped by the pace.

I'm hoping all of this will end up published in the near future so I can absorb it at a pace my slow brain can handle.Feeling grumpy, Carroll
