Clogged duct

PPT- I got a call from a Mom today who is having problems with a clogged duct.

She is 10 days pp and says she has had it since day 3 or 4 pp. She decribes it

as being below her nipple and partly underneath her areola. She states infant

is having a difficult time latching to that breast and she thinks it is due to

the hard lump. It does soften with heat and manual expression but always comes

right back. Mom was already doing most the common treatments I think she could

be more agressive with the pumping, heat, and massage to try to clear milk duct.

And I also suggested cold compresses after pumping or feeding. I reviewed

Mom's advise to make sure I didn't miss anything especially since I worked last

night and haven't had much sleep. Is there anything I missed or that you ladies

with more experience have found to be helpful. I think definitely getting

infant to latch and feed off that side would be helpful and I gave suggestions

to help latch infant. Of course I suggested a home visit and she sounded

interested and said she wanted to talk it over with her husband. I also feel

like her milk supply has decreased on that side she doesn't ever notice it

feeling full and states that she doesn't get much out pumping the most she has

gotten is 1/2 an ounce.

On a positive note she stated she got my name from a rural hospital that I had

dropped some information at. Good to know that my hard work driving all over

the place trying get my name out there is paying off.

Thanks for any advice I will check precious posts,
