Join up with a local mother baby store (not BRU). Hold free weekly mother

support groups there. Breastfeeding moms may ask questions there, but you can

let the more complicated ones know they'll need a private consult. Some mother

baby stores have the capacity to have consults done there as well. Leave a

display of your business cards at their counter, if you can.

Hi,

I made up a flyer with my photo on it and listed my rates and the things I do. Sent it to every pediatrician, OB and Midwife within a 30 mile radius of my home

Every time I see a Mom/baby I send both Ped and OB a hard copy of my care plan. If it happens to be a new one I include my handout. If I hadn't seen anyone from that office in 2 years, I include my hand out.

I had 5000 pens made up. When I do drop in on MD's I leave my cards and a hand full of my pens.

It took 6 years, but now the MD's are calling me. Takes awhile to get known. My patients are my best referrals. Remind them the best thank you is to give my name to a friend that is pregnant or just had a baby.

I even sent the letter to the LC in the peds office. Let them know I do weekend and evenings incase they have someone that needs to be seen on off hours.

Be patient, but keep introducing yourself.

I've attached my flyer.

Best wishes.

Just wondering what you ladies with established practice feel is your main source of referals. I have been tyring to get out there. I have limited amount of time with 3 young children, a part time job on Saturday and Suday nights, and then a PRN job during the day which I plan to quit if my Private Practice start taking off and by that I mean have between 2-3 visits a week consistently 5-6 visits would be even better.I started with some local hospitals 2 of which were very nice and receptive the other 2 one has yet to contact me and the last said it was aganist their policy to promote other businesses.I also checked with all of the pediatricians especailly the ones without in house LC becuase they are more receptive.I did leave information for one OB/GYN group but could definitely search out more.I have also started contacting family practice docs (in my area many of them see newborns)I have been trying to get my name on website such as lowmilksupply.org (there is only one lc listed for MO and she is in Saint Louis) naturallyborn.net and a few others.I am working on getting my site more googlable.I was waiting for October to join ILCA so it would be good through next year and will do that today. Is there anything I am missing. I am trying to stay positive and patient since they're arent really any pplc in my area people don't even know they exist. it's nice that I am not depending on my business for money right now but I have put some money into it and hope I can at least break even by the end of the year. I have also thought about offering a free class either at a Baby's R Us or a library.I just want to focus first on the ones that work the best as I know it will take time for me to get my name out to all the locations that could possibly give referals.Just want to Thank All who participate in this group as it has been so helpful and informative,Karman Romerowww.babysbreaststart.com

Hello, Karman.

Can't speak to a class at the library, but I wouldn't waste my time at Babies 'R' Us. I have done them there as LLL Leader and it rarely gets new moms to come to meetings. And not sure you want to be too much associated with them as PPLC since they are WHO Code violators.

Introduce yourself to local LLL Leaders, if there are any. They can be a very good source of referrals when the information they have doesn't seem to be helping the mother. If there is a regional Breastfeeding Task Force or state coalition, you might want to join it for more networking opportunities.

it's appreciated.

, I really like your flyer. Thanks for sharing it with us. Could I make just a few suggestions as a previous English teacher?

1. Breastfeeding should be one word. Sometimes you have it as two, sometimes as one.

2. Get rid of the apostrophe in Mom’s.

3. Make you list items agree grammatically. For instance if one starts with a verb, they all should, if possible.

Your flyer is really nice, so just take these suggestions as a few nit-picky improvements, please!

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions,

I actaully had my first visit last week. The mom lived over an hour and half

from my house so I stated I would have to charge her more and wouldn't be able

to see her for a couple of days due to needing such a large block of time. She

responded with how about I come to you. And she did drove all the way to my

house with her mother and her two week old. The visit went great then her

mother posted a great comment on her facebook about and the friended me so I

would see it. I think there are lots of people out there that don't see the

need for PPLC but there definitely is who else would spend two hours with a mom

and infant having trouble on a Friday evening.

Also I am friends with some of the local LLL Leaders and am a LA myself so they

will definitely refer people to me. One of them even posted about my website on

local mothers facebook page.

I won't be doing the Babies R Us class hadn't thought about the WHO code. I

need to find other stores I am not sure which ones are out there locally. Are

you referring to stores that sell maternity clothes and baby clothes or

something else. I have already gone through my first 500 business cards so I

need to order more.

Thanks Again,

Karman Romero

the babies r us thing is a sham. don't do it. I have done it multiple times and they always promise to keep my business cards and refer people to me who ask about pumps, but they never, never have!
