I could find plenty of references to the use of coconut oil for thrush, however I could not find a post with a 'regimin'. Could someone please share the recommended regimin? Frequency, mom AND babe? etc. etc. Thanks so much! I really appreciate it.
Guest guest
I appreciate that! I can only access an abstract however, I do not have access to this journal. I would love to hear how people are recommending its use. Guest guest
I'm doing a poor job of describing what I'm looking for! How about specifics for yeast/thrush? How much, how is it recommended to be applied, what to apply it with, how often, mother's areola, infant's mouth? What concentration, specifis re: the oil (virgin/organic is what I'm getting)etc. How long until we should see results? Guest guest
I use extra virgin coconut oil. I don't have a specific number of times or amount. I just have them apply as needed. I've never used it for thrush in mucus membranes.Dana Schmidt, BS, RN, IBCLCCradlehold, DirectorBreastfeeding Education & Supportwww.cradlehold.netwww.facebook.com/cradleholdhttp://twitter.com/cradleholdwww.meetup.com/Wednesday-Afternoon-Weigh-InsProviding the minimum amount of intervention for the minimum amount of time for maximum benefit to mother and babyMay 1st - March of Dimes Walk. Guest guest
Apply after every feeding. Use organic coconut oil. Do you wipe it off--it absorbs into the tissue very quickly. Guest guest
I never put coconut oil in the baby's mouth! Coconut oil is only part of my thrush protocol. I also suggest mom restrict certain foods and have mom and baby both take a probiotic. Sometimes, esp if baby has cradle cap, I add biotin (orally for mom unless baby is older) and if mom's nipple heal poorly, zinc and vit D (orally for mom). If I need something other than probiotic in baby's mouth, I have mom mix baking soda (1 tsp/1cup water) and swab the mouth for a few days. Jan would love that ... shari In my workshop Holistic Practices in Lactation, I teach the use of coconut oil for many, many purposes and it is also something I am discussing in-depth in my book.
