Guest guest
Did anyone get copies of Your Guide to Breastfeeding. Look at the photo on page 13. Ugh. The picture on page 18, although not close up, is a far better choice. This is a copy of the letter I sent to the US Dept of Health and Human Services, Office on Women's Health.Thank you for promoting and distributing Your Guide to Breastfeeding. I received my copies yesterday and was very excited to use it as a reference to new moms on breastfeeding home visits. However, I was a gasp when I saw the photo on page 13 with the description of a Good Latch. This is probably the worst latch I have ever seen. The lips are tight and pinching the poor mother's nipple. "Signs of a good latch" on the same page state "you will see little or no areala" and "his or her mouth should be filled with breast." I'm sorry but that is not what you are showing with the photograph. Also on page 18, under Sore Nipples, you instruct "if your baby is sucking only on the nipple", well that is EXACTLY what your photograph shows. I urge you to please replace this photograph immediately. This one photograph pretty much undoes all of the good information in your very thorough booklet.I would be very happy to help you select a more appropriate photograph for your next publication.Sincerely,Dana Schmidt, RN, IBCLCDirector, Cradleholdwww.cradlehold.net
