Thanks, Chris.

That's great news. I have a couple of questions:

What is the brand of EPA/DHA you are taking?

How long have you had PSSD?

What do you mean by " eyes staring at everything " ? Was it like a zoned out, kind

of spaced out feeling you had?

Thanks, and congratulations on your recovery.

Hi Vornan,Thanks,"eyes staring at everything" was with regards to everything felt the same, which was horrible,I could not connect anything, and I would look at basically everything in a room just to try and get a response, and it always felt like I was staring rather than contemplating, its hard to describe, but im sure others have had this,

my eyes used to stare so much. They say eyes are a part of the sole, well if you look at any pictures of me, in the past year they have been wide and blank.  I couldnt basically think.Rather than zoned out,  it was like i wasnt even here i was aware of things happening all over the place every single movement within my

eyesight. The type of fish oil I am on was recommended by one of the lassies at the health shop. Its called eskimo-3 (http://www.eskimo3.co.uk/Default.aspx?tabid=71 & ProductID=275)And the mood balancers was the ones from higher nature.I was diagnosed with pssd two weeks into my treatment of citalopram.I have been off the Antidepressents(was on them for 6 months) about 6 months now, and have felt some sense of normality returning  bit by bit.  My opinion of pssd is that it realtes to not just sex but emotions, motor control sleep and alot of other things that these have messed up.Hope that helps,JTo: SSRIsex Sent: Thursday, 5 March, 2009 21:27:16Subject: Re: Amazing recovery

Im guessing you are from the UK. How did you get the trytophan? I was under the impression you can only get it via prescriptionThis higher nature product....do you have the name and the ingredients?

J, I am so happy for you, I take EPA/DHA daily . I stopped Cymbalta one month ago.

I can relate to everything you are saying except that sex has not returned.

I am having erotic dreams.

What SSRI did you take and for how long? I assume you are a male. Does it matter? How much EPA/DHA are you taking daily? What is the ratio? it is my understanding that increasing the DHA will help rid off potential Depression well as nerve pain.

It is wonderful updates like this that so many of us are encouraged to hear and keep on fighting to get our lives back. I spent many years on Prozac which was the drug that kicked my naïve butt. But I will return as strong as ever. I feel better already! Not horney but in anticipation of intense mind blowing orgasms in my near future. I could not have even written this while on Cymbalta, what a nasty drug it is. It kept me in a state of uncertainty and paranoia I had never felt before and I too had numb emotions concerning things that should have had me up and responding. FYI the Cymbalta was prescribed to alleviate the intense nerve pain associated with Fibromyalgia.

WOW,

I have had the best and most refreshing nights sleep ever since I can remember, since I had was on the SSRIS,

my body always felt like it was in the fight r flight mode, everything I perceived as a threat,

Now supplimenting myself with trytophan (think thats how you spell it) helped with my dream recall and was giving me good sleeps, but

since I added High strength EPA/DHA to my diet, two days in and I have had the most refreshing night ever. I woke up and was horny,

and have been horny a lot of the time.

My eyes are no longer staring at everything, i can control my emotions and actually have a bit of empathy now, i can concentrate

and feel myself coming back,

So i would definatly recommend taking the epa/dha and mood balancing stuff together as I feel like my brain is reparing itself.

Just thought I would let use no and see if any else have had these beneftis,

Hey

that's great! I hope you continue to improve with your current regime.

Two quick questions:

1.)I'd be really interested to know what your dosage of the omega 3 fatty acids

is. It seems that many only reap benefits if they dose them considerably higher

than generally recommended.

2.)About tryptophan: Are you experiencing any side-effects? I took 5-htp for

about three months. Eventually, I stopped because of heart burn that never

totally went away. (Also, I didn't notice any improvement regarding sleep or

mood.)

I can't handle 5HTP either. Although it is the precurser to serotonin it also

boosts dopamine and noradrenaline which are stimulants. Tryptophan apparently

only boosts serotonin so might be better for some of us.

EPA is not so good at ending a depression but can stop them from starting in the

first place. If you can knock a depression out and bring about peace of mind the

EPA should then work to rebuild the brain. According to DR Basant Puri, a

leading expert on omega 3, stress destoys the EPA before it reaches the brain.

I've orderd some tryptophan and shall give it a go.

I tried taking fish oil for the past 4 days. I've been taking a spoonful of

Carlson's lemon flavored fish oil with every meal and today I actually had

regained all the sensitivity in my dick back. My orgasm hasn't changed too

much... but the fish oil worked with sensitivity so that's great. I'm gonna keep

taking it. Thanks for the tip.

Yep apologies for not being clearer, also if this comes out bold, for some reason my e-mail is acting up today.  I got mixed up I didnt take trytophan seperatly but with the mixture below, and tbh personally I think it was the glutamine within the mixture that helped to calm down prior to the fish oil, but thats just my own opinion, would be useful for someone else to try and see if they have similar

results.I took the mxture about two weeks prior to the fish oil, though it was certainly the fish oil which helped me the most. To: SSRIsex Sent: Monday, 9 March, 2009 4:12:42Subject: Re: Amazing recovery

It is great to hear a success story and hope that you recover fully. I also can share a success story as I posted that I used a product called Gentaplex. It claims that it is made of Ginka biloba and majorly from some type a fish oil. Anyway I have recovered about 90%. I had my first sex in 18 months and it was wonderful. Suprizingly my message did not get any attention. Just wanted to say that I have learned a great deal from this wonderful group and wish all of you recover from your condition.

Thanks very much

Im glad some of you have had some success with EPA>Ive tried the VegEPA stuff Basant Puri recommends AND Eskimo fish oil. Neither did anything noticeable for me. Same with the 5-HTPMy guess is that people who are benefiting from these supplements....it is because their sexual dysfunction is mostly due to depression rather than PSSD.

The main way I can see these supplements working is by lifting depression and therefore increasing libido....after all low libido is a big symptom of depression

I disagree. Who knows why some supplements work for some people and don't work

for others? That's basically the reason we are all here. SSRI's affected our sex

drives and for others they (SSRI's) did not. Everyone's bodies are different.

Therefore we can't assume that " one size fits all " for supplements and drugs or

that any success must be due to lifted depression.

I know I had PSSD because it happened two weeks into my antidepressents,Sheer shutoff from any sort of libido, that was fine prior to starting my course. Now every brain is different, I wouldnt say that this would help everyone, though it certainly helped me, and some others to note.  Plus it wasnt just the fish oil i took it was the mood balancing stuff as well, though I did not receive the benefits until after the fish oil. From:

since I added High strength EPA/DHA to my diet, two days in and I have had the most refreshing night ever.

Just thought I would let use no and see if any else have had these beneftis,

you can possibly ruled this out by stop taking mood balancer for a short time

and take fish oil only.

I now realize that, the hell that I had been experiencing for the last month

was caused in part by adding a fish oil supplement to my diet. It completely

numbed the little emotions I did have, and it took away all my anxiety. I was

experiencing complete anhedonia. Furthermore it completely dulled the effects of

any medication or drug I took. I could drink a ridiculous amount of alcohol and

it would hardly phaze me. It took me a while to figure out it was the fish oil,

I finally stopped and things started returning to their status quo. I'm pretty

sure it improved my cognition, erections and sex drive, but what a fucking trade

off that would be. I wish it didn't do all that other shit.

Hey how long did you have PSSRI before you recovered with the fish oil?

Did you take ultra pure EPA? Dr Stoll and Dr Basant K Puri seperartely found that DHA stops the EPA from working fully. Also, Dr Stoll say's that sometimes DHA makes depression worse. Here are some extracts from a site I found - the link is below.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While doctors often find it hard to see beyond antidepressant drugs, the latest cutting-edge research findings have revealed that an essential fatty acid naturally found in fish oils can have remarkable results in combating depression.

Now, you may be thinking that fish oils as a treatment for depression is hardly ground-breaking news (Lancet 1998; 351: 1213). However, the new research shows that only one of the two main fatty acids present in fish oil is beneficial against the condition and that taking the two together could even negate these positive effects making it vital that the right one is taken.

The recent research findings have shown that it is only EPA that has depression-relieving properties and DHA may actually compete with EPA for binding sites in brain cell membranes and so reduce its effectiveness (Am J Psychiatry 2003; 160(5): 996-998).

I've had it on and off since I went cold turkey off a high dose of Effexor 5

years ago. I noticed sometimes I had no feeling and sometimes it would slightly

come back but then go away shortly thereafter. I think I spoke too soon about

the fish oil though because as good as I felt after 4 days on it its been about

a week now and I'm back to feeling numb. But I've gone back to sleeping

irregularly and not exercising vigorously so that may be the reason. I found

that while on fish oil if I exercised vigorously for a long time each day it

would help out even more. The biggest problem I've had since going cold turkey

is having an irregular sleep schedule which may contribute to the PSSRI.

But anyways, I'm gonna try to get back to sleeping normal, exercising each day,

and then get back on alot of fish oil each day and I'll let you guys know if the

sleep and lack of exercise was the culprit.

I was gonna try ginkgo too but I had read that there's not enough evidence to

support it's claims so I decided not to try it.

Oh yea and I found that l-dopa (velvet bean extract) helped with sexual function

but I started getting rapid heartbeats so I had to stop it.

Yohimbe bark extract is also amazing at restoring and intensifying sensation but

it's really bad for the circulatory system unfortunately and I got heart

palpitations while on that so I stopped it too...

This is a tad ridiculous. I thought I was improving, but ultimately I still feel

no ups or downs, just uncomfortably numb. And my effects to drugs are still

drastically dulled, it just fluctuates it seems. This happened after the fish

oil.. which I was combining with 5htp. I noticed at one point I was experiencing

parkinson like involuntary movements, and I thought they were due to withdrawing

from flexeril. But now I think it might have been due to a serotonin overload

from 5htp + fish oil ? Any idea why fish oil would do this? I've been searching

the internet like a mad man and I found this guy whose symptoms are incredibly

similar. http://essenceofmybrain.blogspot.com/

He was also taking both 5htp and fish oil. Also he coincidentally also started

out on paxil. I am thinking the ssri's screwed something up with the way respond

to other drugs.

I think you are kinda right there,  I tried Rhodiola rosea two days ago just to see if it could make my recover quicker,And I felt like I wasnt in control again.  Fish oil still helping the most for me.  I also visited the endo who says I have to waita year before we can say that everything is out of system, so ive been discharged, until then.Testosterone was 17nmol still within normal levels but on the lower end, I also think that the ssris messed up the test receptors in our brainbut Im just guessing with that. To: SSRIsex Sent: Tuesday, 17 March, 2009 4:21:29Subject: Re: Amazing recovery

I think SSRIs hypersensitize the brain to serotonin, and that might be why you had an exaggerated response to the 5HTP and fish oil. That's why other things like aerobic exercise don't work as well either.

Also, personally, I don't think fish oil is necessarily a good thing for everyone. I noticed even before I ever touched an SSRI that the stuff gave me muscle fasciculations (twitches). But if I just eat oily fish like sardines I don't get that side effect. I wonder if there's something about eating the processed oil that is different to eating whole fish..

5HTP made me feel horible. It stimulates serotonin and also noradrenaline and

dopamine. I started twithching again when I used it(quite mild) but I knew it

was interacting with the damage that antidepressants had done to my brain. It

also gave me terrible tinnitus and I couldn't think straight. I have have used

pure EPA for years, and sometimes at high dosages, and have not noticed any ill

effects (nor much benifit either).
