Stumped

I saw a mom and baby today that really stumped me. Usually I have more

suggestions then a mom can handle, this one just kept puzzling me. The baby is 3

1/2 months old. Was EBF at first and doing well. A few weeks ago baby started

rejecting the breast during the day and would only nurse at night, that would

lead me to think had to do with bottles, but the baby will take formula from a

bottle but won't take breast milk at all in the day time. Mom has lots of

stored pumped milk. The baby is seemingly teething like crazy, though it seems

a little young, or maybe there is something else making her miserable and

rubbing her gums and face? She has what looked to me like a allergic rash on

her face. Mom said it developed at about 2 weeks when she was still ebf. I

would still think allergy but nothing in moms diet stands out, no family history

of allergies, mom says she doesn't do a lot of dairy but I am always still prone

to think that is the cause. That still wouldn't explain why she rejects the

breast milk and drinks dairy formula. I also asked about any other changes

meds., diet, soap, deodorant, detergent - said no to all. I asked her if she was

nursing in a different position during the night then she tries during the day

and she said she wasn't. My only two suggestions to her were try mixing some

breast milk with the formula to see if the baby still will take that in a bottle

and try some different positions and of course skin-to-skin time. I told her I

would post and see if anyone else had ideas. Oh the ped. told her to try and

offer baby food, not cereal because that could promote obesity but other baby

foods?
