Guest guest
Hello. I am new to this group and was wondering if anyone has experience with this type of migration defect and what, if any, delays and/or other disorders stem from it in your case. I have a 2.5 yr old son named who was diagnosed with microcephaly and bifrontal polymicrogyria via MRI as an infant. I was told that the greatest problem with this type of defect is seizures, which (knock wood) he doesn't and/or hasn't had. He does, however, have moderate spastic diplegia related to generalized hypertonia. He was recently turned down for SDR surgery to reduce the spasticity in his legs because of the migration defect. The Neurosurgeon said it would not work in his case. He is now scheduled to have muscle lengthening surgery in his hamstrings and adductors to relieve an 80% subluxation of the right hip in 2 weeks and will be having his first round of Botox injections in his calves, thumbs and pectoral muscles in June. He also has speech and feeding diff. related to his increased tone. He currently has no speech except for squealing, whining, laughing and crying (all of which are appropriate). He is also on a pureed diet with some mechanical soft foods and is unable to feed himself. Cognitively, he appears to be very close to age appropriate. He is able to follow simple commands, identify people, toys, body parts etc etc. I am hoping to find others with similar situations. Any knowledge about the disorder, prognosis, and/or treatments would be much appreciated. Feel free to email me at Sue_Cleary@... Thank you.
