I just looked at my own palate, and this ridge on the baby definitelt follows the same line I see as a faint white line on my own palate, so I am pretty sure cathy genna is on the mark with it being a delayed palatal closure,with extra thickenedd cells...i wonder if that kind of delay would resut in a cleft if delayed just a few days further. I am writing a lit review actually, for a class, about palatal closure, and apparently it is not yet known exactly what happens to the medial epithelial cells to allow adhesion of each half of the palate for fusion!
