Guest guest
It could be a reaction to the formula, but the other two thoughts that came to mind are has the baby been checked for tongue tie and is she using baby-led bottle feeding? I’ve seen suspected reflux, wheezing/difficulty breathing and even feeding refusal all due to the way the baby was being bottle fed. Because baby is getting formula, probiotics may be something to consider as well .Warmly,Fleur Bickford BSc., RN, IBCLCOttawa, Canada From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of berybritSent: July-13-11 2:05 PMTo: Subject: reflux or ? I am working with a mom who is looking for info about causes of her baby's discomfort after feeding. The baby is on formula (has tried 3 kinds) but she is considering banked milk (she had severe supply problems and does not want to consider relactation). The baby has discomfort after feeding- at our meeting she took two feedings of a few ounces each over 1 1/2 hours, and then started to fuss and cry (typical). Could be reflux, and we're looking into that. Her question is- could it be discomfort from lower in the GI tract instead of reflux? Baby was on zantac but that didn't help. Stools are firm.I guess this is a vague question, but any thoughts? Thanks,
Guest guest
Good thoughts! I have checked for TT, but now have written her about baby led bottle feeding. Am going to stress this and positioning for reflux to see if that helps. I haven't seen a lot of babies that are bottle fed- having those problems in response to the methods is kind of alarming. Baby has been on probiotics. RE: reflux or ?
