Hi All,

Dana and I have been discussing the needs of our fellow PPLC’s

and how it can be difficult to establish wholesale accounts or even find the

items that we need in an easy manner. What we have come up with is a

really nice collaboration between East and West Coast LC’s who have never

met in person. (How cool is that??) Here is our plan:

We will be designing a price list for the items that we will

either both (or individually) offer. We will also put product information

on our websites so that Lactation Professionals can see the product list and

request a price/information sheet. Prices will not be placed

on-line. Dana and I have agreed that it is best to keep our prices the

same – the only thing that will be different is shipping costs to each

individual. If we have a rep on each side of the USA people can choose

which will save them money with lower shipping costs. We will also

provide information for those items that are very easy to order on your own so

you don’t have to buy from us. We believe in working together –

we want to help others have what they need in the easiest way possible.

It isn’t about making money for us – because if it were we’d

be charging y’all retail! <smile!> For us, it is about

making things accessible to our respected and appreciated colleagues.

So, it will take us a couple weeks to put it all together,

but everything is most definitely in action…which is really exciting for

us! We could use your help though in one area specifically. If

anyone has specific information on who to buy what item from and for how much

please e-mail Dana or me with that information. For example: If you

but it is SUPER easy!), Pumpin Pals (again super easy to open your own account,

but they require minimum orders which you may not want or need), HoneySuckle

account through, but require minimum orders).

Re: NIPPLE SHIELDS

I have just sent an e-mail to KaWeCo to place an

order. I will be buying in bulk – 50 shields per size in a poly bag.

This will likely cost me $60+ per bag plus international shipping. As I

find out more information on my cost I will let you know so that you know what

your cost will be (your shipping will be extra). Note: Dana and I

have agreed to upcharge a small amount to compensate for our time and

effort. But, please know it will be minimal – you will not be

paying full retail for the items we offer.

For orders for nipple shields – to keep it simple and

cost effective there will be a minimum order of 10 shields – you can

choose whatever sizes you want – you will not be limited to 10 of one

size. J

To everyone who has expressed interest: Thank

you! I have your e-mails saved in a special folder (Nipple Shields) and

will let the group and you individually know what the status is. If

anyone else is interested, make sure to send me an e-mail… Please

wanted to do for a long time, but really needed some help. I was so

thrilled when she started this and even more thrilled when I asked if I could

join her in the endeavor and she was more than happy to have me on board!

I think it is a beautiful thing that two LC’s who have never met can come

together in the spirit of helping others, be on the same page with ethics and

ideals and work together to help our community. I know many of us have

dealt with challenges in our communities with our peers (territorialism,

jealousy, others not wanting to share information or skills out of fear of

losing business…). We want You to know it doesn’t have to be

that way…We are all about helping each other.

BLESS YOU BOTH!FYI in case you need this, I have been buying 5 fr tubes and syringes (35cc and 3 cc) from Orion Medical Supply. My last order was in 2006 and I'm just about ready to order more 5 fr. They have 15 in and 36 in tubes. the a5 in 5 fr were about 1.13 each . 35 cc syringes were about 20 dollars for 100. I think they are in vancouver WA and the phone is . I finally placed my order for nipple shields with KaWeCo for cherry shaped and

conical NS. Please let me know if you are on the East Coast and need some.

I'll let you know when they arrive here. I just placed an order with

Motherlove. They could not be more helpful. I've contacted Byram for 15Fr and

16Fr tubes but I have not heard back yet. Who knew these would be so hard?

little baffled that I was asking for supplies to the east coast! I will

continue looking for a medical wholesaler. If anyone has a supplier on the east

coast, please forward the info for me and I will contact them. I have Hygiea

I'm curious about the size of a 15 french and a 16 french. Those would be HUGE, IMO. I use a 5 french, 36 inch. Occasionally an 8 french, but most of the moms feel as though the baby drowns with that.

If you don't put the plunger in the syringe, and just use it as a "holder" for the supplement, it functions the same way that the SNS does. The problem is putting the plunger in. The alternative is simply putting the business end in a bottle or cup of supplement and the baby siphons up the supplement when she sucks.

My moms are instructed to flush the tubing (syringe WITH plunger comes in handy here) with cold water first so as not to "cook" the protein, and then with hot water after each feed. I give them enough so they can replace fairly frequently, but I don't know how often they do it. (Fairly frequently being a euphemism for I don't have a clue).

This doesn't work the same way a SNS does. Take it out to start and pour supplement in from the top. Have to hold it upright or use rubber band around it and safety pin it to mom's shirt or whatever. Then use the plunger when cleaning it.

NOT 15 & 16 -- just 5 Fr. The higher the number the bigger the tubing size. I don't remember exactly, but I think 16 is about the size of a foley catheter. (Been a long time since I've had to use one of THOSE!!)

I'm curious about the size of a 15 french and a 16 french. Those would be HUGE, IMO. I use a 5 french, 36 inch. Occasionally an 8 french, but most of the moms feel as though the baby drowns with that.

If you don't put the plunger in the syringe, and just use it as a "holder" for the supplement, it functions the same way that the SNS does. The problem is putting the plunger in. The alternative is simply putting the business end in a bottle or cup of supplement and the baby siphons up the supplement when she sucks.

My moms are instructed to flush the tubing (syringe WITH plunger comes in handy here) with cold water first so as not to "cook" the protein, and then with hot water after each feed. I give them enough so they can replace fairly frequently, but I don't know how often they do it. (Fairly frequently being a euphemism for I don't have a clue).

That's how we were taught to wash dishes, so while it makes sense to me, I wonder about soap residue left in the tube (whether we are talking the 5 Fr or the SNS).

it's not based on anything...I just made it up cause it made sense to me, like washing a bottle or pump parts

with the force of the rinse, i don't know... but there could also be milk residue, formula residue, bacteria, and other things. someone should do a study!

I'm curious about the size of a 15 french and a 16 french.  Those would be HUGE, IMO.  I use a 5 french, 36 inch.  Occasionally an 8 french, but most of the moms feel as though the baby drowns with that.

 

If you don't put the plunger in the syringe, and just use it as a " holder " for the supplement, it functions the same way that the SNS does.  The problem is putting the plunger in.  The alternative is simply putting the business end in a bottle or cup of supplement and the baby siphons up the supplement when she sucks.

 

My moms are instructed to flush the tubing (syringe WITH plunger comes in handy here) with cold water first so as not to " cook " the protein, and then with hot water after each feed.  I give them enough so they can replace fairly frequently, but I don't know how often they do it.  (Fairly frequently being a euphemism for I don't have a clue).

Just keep in mind the nuisance of refilling a 20ml syringe if there is

anticipated prolonged use beyond the first 3-5 days.

The bigger syringe is going to be more utilitarian.
