Guest guest Posted May 1, 2012 Report Share Posted May 1, 2012 Hi Jen, Why not do a monthly weigh in? So this way that isn't always staring at you week by week or day by day. Honestly, from your weight reports you pretty much stay the same - sure you lose some weeks and gain some weeks but I think if you averaged it out you would end up being the same. So, maybe the scale is not working with you but working against you. I will still be able to go to the pool and do my own thing and I'm taking a swimming class so that will help...PLUS walking! I sometimes weigh more .. daily but recognize my weight can fluctuate a lot...I am now using the measurement stuff on fitbit..that helps.. also I put on shorts for baseball game last night. Last year I couldn't wear them (well I could but couldn't sit!) this year they fit perfectyea! Guest guest Posted May 4, 2012 Report Share Posted May 4, 2012 I weigh myself everyday but I only count it on my official weigh-in day which is Sunday. I know my weight goes up and down but I like tracking it. Congrats on the shorts, that's GREAT! I'm stressed out from Max (new kitten) and Mia (20 year old cat) not getting along. Max is VERY active and at only 9 weeks old he has figured out how to get on the table and the counter in the kitchen! He jumps on poor Mia so I have to keep an eye on him at all times. My Mom who is 84 can't keep up with him. At night and when I'm not home we put him in a cage...I feel bad for him. He was one of 7 (one kitten died) in the litter so he used to having a lot of cats/kittens to play with. I feel like I'm being mean to him but I can't let him bite and scratch my older cat so I'm stuck. I would keep him in his cage over-night though because I don't want him to get into trouble when we're sleeping. My Mom thinks it's time to put Mia to sleep but I'm not ready and she's my cat so it's my decision NOT hers.Anyway sorry for venting, I know you're not a cat person but it helps to talk to someone about it. I don't know cats but do train dogs.. and I Think you are doing the right thing.. young kitty needs to learn respect older cat and it is your cats you do what is best.for dogs I crate my pups for first 1-2 years.. now that doesn't mean they are ALWAYS in crate but when I am not there they are and when I am training other dogs they are but I do crate games so my dogs love their crates. Plus dogs love to have their "safe space" .. it isn't mean if you exercise the animal and they don't live in the crate.. but use it as training.. anyway you seem to have a good grip on this and it will work out. I know my weight goes up and down but I like tracking it. Congrats on the shorts, that's GREAT! I'm stressed out from Max (new kitten) and Mia (20 year old cat) not getting along. Max is VERY active and at only 9 weeks old he has figured out how to get on the table and the counter in the kitchen! He jumps on poor Mia so I have to keep an eye on him at all times. My Mom who is 84 can't keep up with him. At night and when I'm not home we put him in a cage...I feel bad for him. He was one of 7 (one kitten died) in the litter so he used to having a lot of cats/kittens to play with. I feel like I'm being mean to him but I can't let him bite and scratch my older cat so I'm stuck. I would keep him in his cage over-night though because I don't want him to get into trouble when we're sleeping. My Mom thinks it's time to put Mia to sleep but I'm not ready and she's my cat so it's my decision NOT hers.Anyway sorry for venting, I know you're not a cat person but it helps to talk to someone about it. I got discouraged because I feel that I have to be "perfect" to lose a one pound and on the other hand if I look at food, I gain 2 or 3 pounds. I'm working it out though. I need to focus on doing the right thing day by day and forget about the number on the scale.About my sinus problems. They come and they go depending on the weather. That's the only way I always knew I had to cut back on the snacking and rev up the work out to stay where I wanted to. I was thinking about your cats. The little one would be taught by the family he was in, mother and little ones. If your older cat were in a condition to snap back she could teach it very quickly. But she can't do that and in that case I would keep the little on in a crate too. For the older one it would help to decide what to do if you talk to the vet. It comes down to quality of life. Just because the animal is old doesn't mean they don't have quality. If they are happy to see you, if all they need is to rest and be with someone they love and that makes them content, then they have good quality of life. If pain is an issue it can be treated. At the end you will know when wherever she is in her path she is not getting better and not coming back to be the happy content cat she was before, they you will know it's time. My mom was telling us to put our dog down since he was 12 because he has health conditions that were hard to deal with. But she didn't know the kind of dog he was so it was not her call. We didn't listen and he lived another 5 years. The last 2 we spent constantly checking with the vet if it was time. She was very good at explaining how it looks when it is time, but each time she saw him she said he was the energizer dog. Wagging tail and obviously not suffering. As hard as it was to imagine, when time came we could see it was time. This was our fist to deal with it. The next time we will be more educated and prepared because we know what to look for. You really will know.
