Guest guest
Hello Wise Women, I am a newly certified IBCLC near Toronto and have been thoroughly enjoying this list! I have been a LLLeader for over 6 years, thus am used to providing information and support without getting paid. Now that I have started a private practice, I am wondering how others handle similar situations: Today I was emailed by a mother (who found me online) requesting information but not a consult. She did not provide a telephone number. So, I answered her questions and attached a document I had previously prepared with further information. I needed to do some research and tweak the handout (my logo is finally ready!) - took about 45 minutes total. I do not expect to be paid for this work, but I'm wondering if others do charge for phone/email-only help. When I do an in-home initial visit, I tell clients that follow-up for these concerns by phone, email and text is not charged. Part of me just wants to let it go, take pride in the fact that I have helped someone, and hope for a ripple effect in the future. But a tiny voice reminds me that I invested a LOT in my education and business, and my services should be compensated... I would love to hear how others in private practice deal with this. Thank you in advance! Anne Weeks, MClSc, IBCLC Best Beginning Lactation Services bestbeginning.ca
