Guest guest
Hi All, Under Pathway 3, Mentors MUST be an IBCLC in good standing and have recertified at least once – at 5 yrs. I believe you must have been an IBCLC for 5 yrs under this pathway. However, there is a new wrinkle. Apparently, if an LC wannabe takes the UCSD Gini Baker course, they can use ANY IBCLC as a mentor to get their ‘mentored’ hours, and that mentor does NOT need to have recertified at least once (5 yrs). I am not sure how I feel about that personally. I know that as an IBCLC for 10 yrs (in the field for 16) I have enough of a challenge with being a Chief Mentor under Pathway 3. I can only imagine the challenges one might have being a new LC and training another up and coming… As far as taking the test every year…wow. So, there you have it… J Jaye Simpson, IBCLC, CIIM Breastfeeding Network Sacramento, CA www.breastfeedingnetwork.net
