Guest guest
Hi, How about asking them to switch back and forth. One week it's the old one, one week it's the new one. The change might be enough to rekindle Ethan's interest..plus you can see if it's just a temporary thing or if he's bonded better to the new PT. Kim --- MrsK143@... wrote: > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Hi Just wondering if the new PT has a different approach that Ethan might have taken to. Hope he has more good sessions. hugs (mum to angel Hannah, Austalia) Therapy Hi everyone! I hope all is well with each and every one of you. This morning my son Ethan had P.T with a different therapist. (The one he usually sees is out of town) And I was so surprised to see how well he did. He did cry (like always) but not as much and she even got him to stand up and use a walker and even take a few steps! I couldn't believe it! Normally, Ethan screams during therapy and won't bear any weight. Once in a blue moon he'll do as good as he did this am, but not usually. Do you think it's because it was someone new or could it be he likes her more? We've been seeing the other P.T for almost 2 years, so I would like to think he's use to her! Should I change therapists? Any ideas?! Love and kisses, K Ethans mommy 2 1/2 yrs w/PMG
Guest guest
Hi everyone! I noticed a couple of comments recently about therapy and thought I would share some info I think might be helpful. When my daughter Olivia was first diagnosed at 7 months I could not believe they expected her to atted OT,PT and SPTH 1 hr 3 times per week! Every time Olivia would start to cry I would say " ok I think she has had enough for one day " ! The therapist were very patient with my uneasiness. The therapist were always and very gently educating me on the importance of the first 3 years of development and how critical it was for Olivia to be encouraged to move as much as possible for continued growth. I did'nt fully appreciate " normal " child development and so I really depended on them for info. Have any of you heard the the phrase " learning through their environment " ? This was probably the area that we pushed the most with Olivia. Because she didn't move much we manuvered her through " her enivronment " So Olivia began to experience touching, feeling, putting things in her mouth and she started developing! We started her swimming at 6 months she started tumbling at 2, she rode a tricycle. Everything, of course adapted for her. Keep in mind that this is a lot of work but so worth it in the long run. Olivia has made slow steady gains and seem to enjoy life. She is social and interacts well with people. Don't get me wrong Oilvia is prety " involved " and our family really had to pull together to make this work. Olivia is the oldest of my 3 children which was a challenge at times. Therapy was hard to go through. The stander, swings, splints, climbing but all important for Olivia to " learn through her environment " I always encourage families I meet to keep their child active. Whether it be in the house moving about or in a community doing something. We try just about everything with Olivia. This past winter she tried downhill skiing for the first time. I had to put a lot of thought into how she would handle all the sensory aspects of it (the cold, wind, going fast down a hill!) but we did a lot of layers for warmth and had a wonderful ski instructor who held her on her feet down the hill. What a wonderful experience. She kept using the sign for " more " These are the activities that the therapist encouraged us to do with Olivia to keep carring through all the therapeutic things that they implemented. I had hard time accepting this whole idea. I had two other children and felt so " spent " but once I realized that this was " our " life, the anguish became enjoyment and a sense of adventure to figure out what else our whole family might get into next. Keep up the therpy, try new things don't be afraid to try new challenges. See therapy as a stepping stone for acitivites to come!
