Guest guest
I use Twitter. I like to read about the problems that mothers are experiencing and the solutions! It's also a quick way to connect with other LC professionals. Dana

Guest guest
I just recently started a business page on Facebook as well: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nurtured-Child/175055492506767Although my page is just starting to grow, it’s certainly another good way to interact with moms. A breastfeeding Facebook page was recently deleted (Facebook has a history of having an issue with breastfeeding pictures), and the response on Twitter, Facebook and in the blogging world was incredible. Within 48 hrs, the Facebook page that had been set up in support of her had about 5,000 “likes”. Her story was picked up by mainstream media and her page was eventually re-instated. It really shows the power of social media!. Guest guest
A good way to find people to follow is to find a couple of people and then look at who they follow. You can also search IBCLC, breastfeeding, doula etc and find people that way as well.Warmly,Fleur (@NurturedChild) From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Healy, IBCLCSent: January-09-11 3:53 PMTo: Subject: Re: RE: Social Media Ok, I just joined twitter, any tips? Guest guest
@is for who you want to talk to. Like @cradlehold. A hastag is the #. It finds key words and then you follow a stream that relate to that subject. Like #bfing. When you click on that stream, you find people with interesting topics or points of view and then you "follow" them. I'm pretty sure this is how it works. I found a distressed mom from land and was able to hook her up with Ann Faust just because she had a subject that talked about breastfeeding problems. You just have to keep your comments to a minimum 140 words. If I'm wrong about any this, please let me know. I'm pretty new at it myself. Guest guest
Lou is actually correct. Under Facebook's policies, each individual is supposed to have only one profile, no matter how many different emails you have. From Facebook's Terms of Use:>>>>begin quoteRegistration and Account SecurityFacebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account: • You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission. • You will not create more than one personal profile. • If we disable your account, you will not create another one without our permission. • You will not use your personal profile for your own commercial gain (such as selling your status update to an advertiser). • You will not use Facebook if you are under 13. • You will not use Facebook if you are a convicted sex offender. • You will keep your contact information accurate and up-to-date. • You will not share your password, (or in the case of developers, your secret key), let anyone else access your account, or do anything else that might jeopardize the security of your account. • You will not transfer your account (including any page or application you administer) to anyone without first getting our written permission. • If you select a username for your account we reserve the right to remove or reclaim it if we believe appropriate (such as when a trademark owner complains about a username that does not closely relate to a user's actual name).>>>>end quote (emphasis mine)However, "Pages" are actually something quite different. A Page is set up by a user to represent a business or organization. So I have a Facebook profile and I also manage several different pages, representing several different non-profits I volunteer for. People who see the pages I have set up do not see my personal information, unless I state publicly that I am a fan of the page (which I don't have to do as an administrator). Pages can also have multiple administrators. So if I wanted to have a business represented on Facebook, I would log on under my regular account (which is linked to both my personal and business emails) and set up a Page to represent that business.I have found the blog AllFacebook to be very helpful. Here are a couple of posts about Pages:Facebook Groups Vs Pages: The Definitive Guidehttp://www.allfacebook.com/facebook-groups-pages-2010-02How To Develop A Facebook Page That Attracts Millions of Fanshttp://www.allfacebook.com/facebook-page-strategy-2009-03And here's a post about using friend lists to maintain your own privacy on Facebook, so you can (try to) keep your work and personal lives separate:10 New Privacy Settings Every Facebook User Should Knowhttp://www.allfacebook.com/facebook-privacy-new-2009-12 ****** Palo Alto, California On Jan 9, 2011, at 1:42 PM, wrote:Re: Social MediaPosted by: " Lou" marylou22@... marylou2258Sun Jan 9, 2011 10:54 am (PST)Fleur, As a Facebook shallow end swimmer...I was under the impression you couldonly have one page.
