i just suggest coconut oil from the supermarket. they can use it to cook, bake or as a body cream after a shower! it's inexpensive. no need to buy an expensive tube of something "just" for nipples. Has anyone had experience with the Avent Nipple cream? It contains lanolin, aloe vera and coconut oil. I noticed is only sold in GB. It runs about $10/tube. I’m interested b/c of the coconut oil. I can’t find any nipple cream with coconut oil and without a lot of other ingredients. Those of you recommending coconut oil, are you purchasing bulk and packaging it yourself or what resource do you use? Thanks,June , RN, IBCLC, LLLLOhio

I’m concerned about coconut allergies. I actually know someone that is allergic to coconut and the avent cream has had the protein removed from the oil to make it more hypoallergenic.June From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of BeebeSent: Wednesday, January 05, 2011 10:02 PMTo: Subject: Re: Avent nipple cream i just suggest coconut oil from the supermarket. they can use it to cook, bake or as a body cream after a shower! it's inexpensive. no need to buy an expensive tube of something " just " for nipples. it's fine...i guess i'd rather my newborn taste coconut oil than lanolin. my preference. i let my babies lick carrots, apples, etc. i see it as normal for babies to taste foods in their environment... I have never had anyone allergic to coconut -- that would be a first for me in 25 years of taking histories to include food allergies. But -- as said, people can be allergic to anything. Simple question to ask: Are there any foods you are allergic to? If coconut, don't recommend coconut oil....

I have three tree nut allergic people in my family... It is my understanding

that it is not common for those with other nut allergies to be allergic to

coconut. Two of my people are anaphylactic to multiple tree nuts yet eat

coconut and coconut oil without issue. I don't have a reference for you though.
