Hi Mark -- I am definitely interested and also interested in knowing

if you have a contact for getting such herbs. I am on a mission to

get better, working with a team including an open-minded physicians

assistant (who I call my doctor and who works with doctors) and a

non-traditional medicine person (officially a doctor of chiropracty)

so that I don't end up doing anything really foolish, but I am very

willing to experiment.

Are you possibly aware of any tests for such liver problems? I did

have a test that indicated problems with the adrenal system and was

taking a non-prescription " pill " (vitamins and/or herbs) for that (but

am not doing so any more).

Thanks. --dawn

I'd like to see the list. I joined this group so that I could get a collection of opinions. After seeing this list, I may or may not choose to try it, but I do appreciate having the choice. That's because there is no cure for Asthma. It can only be controlled, just

like Diabetes or High Blood Pressure. Seems like nearly everyday a quack

posts here claiming they have all the answers, our meds are evil, etc. It

gets real old.

I once thought that was the case too -- that it had no cure. But I do

think there are different causes of asthma and some might be curable.

Asthma hit me instantly when I was 17. The folks doing this trial

http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT00266851 are not quacks and think

they have a cure for some types of asthma. I also do not think that

Dr. Buteyko was a quack and many have considered themselves cured

after learning his breathing techniques, from what I understand.

I " feel like " the disease / condition could that I have could be

knocked out of me just as it was knocked into me, so I'm hopeful.

While my everyday symptoms are under control (previously with

medicine, now just do reduced volume breathing to maintain it), my

exercise-induced asthma saw no improvements for 30 years until I

started doing the reduced volume breathing (I would say " Buteyko

breathing " but I have not had any personal instruction and am sure I'm

not doing the really significant reduced breathing that buteyko

practitioners do). I can now do a bit more exercise than in the past,

but still nothing near where I should be. I can ride a bike for 2-3

miles until I simply cannot go another inch, for example.

Enough for now, but my point is that I am not closed off to the

possibility that the person at asthmastory.com and others have

actually been cured, and I'm hoping and working to get there myself.

cheers! --dawn

I never heard of getting Asthma " knocked into you " but then again, I was

born with Asthma so my experiences are different. I just hate seeing self

annointed " experts " come here and tell us Asthma is all in our heads or in

our diets and that we should stop taking our meds and follow their " cures " .

To me that's dangeous and foolhardy.

One should never stop their prescribed therapy or medications because

of something they read on the internet. Trying something new can be

done however you should speak with your doctor before trying it.

Matt,

I appreciate your openess and I agree people should take their meds,

until their doctor tells them otherwise...

I also appreciate the asthmatics who are frustrated in not getting better.

I understand your perspective, Sue, and I have also always heard from

the medical profession that this is something to " control " rather than

to " cure. "

I was 17 when one day I was playing 3 sets of tennis and the next day

I was crawling on the floor because I couldn't breathe or have enough

energy to stand up. I was taken the doctor, who ran several tests

over the next few weeks with a " final " diagnosis that I had a virus,

perhaps like mono.

Between my pregnancies, about 9 years later, I was diagnosed with

" exercise induced asthma " and I must say that getting oxygen because

of this diagnosis during the birth of the second baby was very, very

helpful. I " knew " I was going to die the first time.

So, the theory that asthma could be prompted by a bacterial infection

sounds like it aligns with my symptoms. The doctors guessed " virus "

(which could go away on its own) but instead it was a bacterial

infection perhaps (which doesnm't go away on its own, if I understand

correctly). I have been tested for some of these bacterial

infections, however (the ones mentioned on asthmastory.com) and test

negative for them.

I do not think that all asthma is alike, so there could be different

causes, some of which might just be curable. We can at least hope.

By the way, if you have not yet tried the reduced volume breathing

(buteyko), it is the first thing that has actually had a positive

effect on my exercise-induced asthma. Best wishes. --dawn
