Guest guest
Today I got the word, I was searching for many years.... My Father-in-Law(FIL) was very fond of using different kind of Itrs (oil based perfumes). There is a place Kannauj in UP which is very famous for making special Itrs and my FIL used to purchase itrs from there. He was a widely travelled person and sometimes used to bring itrs from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, France and other places (Made in India, which were not available in India itself). One day I was arranging dinner table and he passed by. I said " is it raining outside? I think so " . He smiled and said " is it? " . I checked out side, there was not a single drop of rain. I turned back and he was smiling " Yes MITTI (earth) ka itr hai " . He was very happy to see the majic of MITTY KA ITR. He was a strong personality, had very good impressive and strong voice, his knowledge was superb on any subject (including Hinduism, Budhism, Christianity, Sikkhism and other religions). He knew a lot about Sanatan Dharm and Vedas. He was very fond of watching " Mahabharat " . He was equally interested in Poetry (Urdu and English). Unfortunately, he suffered from Moton Neuron Disease and died exactly three years after diagnosis. He used to insert his disposable Ryles tube himself daily. I always admired him and his principles. I hope you find this info useful (check out the pronounciation of the word) cheers Ameet 1993 ***************************** Petrichor (PET-ri-kuhr) noun The pleasant smell that accompanies the first rain after a dry spell. [From petro- (rock), from Greek petros (stone) + ichor (the fluid that is supposed to flow in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology). Coined by researchers I.J. Bear and R.G. .] " Petrichor, the name for the smell of rain on dry ground, is from oils given off by vegetation, absorbed onto neighboring surfaces, and released into the air after a first rain. " Bettelheim; Nature's Laboratory; Shasta Parent (Mt Shasta, California); Jan 2002. " But, even in the other pieces, her prose breaks into passages of lyrical beauty that come as a sorely needed revivifying petrichor amid the pitiless glare of callousness and cruelty.
