Guest guest
Hi Tony, You may be very sensitive to the albuterol. It's causing your heart rate to speed up. Matt, one of the group members, is a Registered Respiratory Therapist. He may be able to help shed some light on this and offer some alternatives to albuterol. Then you can talk to your doctor again. Albuterol is great for me, but my heart does get a little bit faster. I hope you don't have problems like that again. Take care, "Tony R." wrote: Hello, I've had asthma since 1998. I've on Flovent HFA Fluticasone 125MCG and Salbutamol 100 mcg.Exactly a week ago today I caught a sore throat. Two days later thethroat infection made its way down into the lungs where it agrevated my asthma. The Salbutamol puffer I use became useless in clearing thelungs. So I ended up in the medical clinic where they gave me Ventolin and oxygen. They told me to keep the mask on until it (the ventolin I suppose) was finish. And then the doctor walked out.About 3 minutes later I began feeling light-headed. I though it wasbecause I wasn't getting enought oxygen, so I kept breathing. Next thing I remember is a doctor suddenly standing in front of me, asking me why I wasn't anwsering his question. Only then did I suddenly notice how fast my heart rate was!I took the mask off and told the doctor about it. He gave aconcern look as he noticed my very accelerated heart. He toldme to lay down and try to slow my breathing. I tried. But every time I took in a breath, my heart speeded upincredibly fast. And then it would slow down very suddenly whenever I let the air out again. At times I was afraid it would stop beating completly and so I'd take in a breath before letting it all out. At the same time I experienced odd sharp pains in the left shoulder and odd vomiting feeling that came and went. And then there were passing out feelings. It was quite a scary sensasion. This is the 2th time I experience this and don't want to again. What can I do next time - remove the mask earlier? Have anyone else experience something like this? .God bless you! New Yahoo! Guest guest
It was Ventolin and oxygen they had given me, not albuterol. Might it have been the Ventolin that I was very sensitive to? Guest guest
Ventolin is the brand name for albuterol. Yes, it probably was the Ventolin. Rapid heart rate and motor trembles are side effects. Guest guest
is right, Ventolin is albuterol. Other brand names for albuterol are Proventil, Proventil Repetabs, Salbutamol, Combivent, DuoNeb and Volmax just to name a few. You may want to try Xopenex the next time. It is like albuterol but has less side effects like increased heartbeat. I have to wonder is you were breathing too fast while taking the albuterol. Hyper ventilation will make you light headed. At this point I would be careful taking albuterol. > > Hello, I've had asthma since 1998. Guest guest
Hi Matt Is Flixotide the same as Flovent and why do all these drugs have so many different names? Kindest regards Ivor Re: scary experience at clinic last week is right, Ventolin is albuterol. Guest guest
After a medication has its patent expire, any company can make it. They will change the name because they want it to be identified with their company. The medication name may be trademarked as well forbidding any other company to use it. > > > Hello, I've had asthma since 1998.
