Guest guest
Unfortunately I have no real "advice" for you... I'm mom to a 5 year old recently diagnosed... but we do travel FREQUENTLY.... so I quickly purchased a travel nebulizer I bought it new off e-bay and it wasn't that expensive... This is the one I have... and it comes with a car adapter as well so my son can neb while we drive if need be (we do LONG road trips frequently... 6-10 hours is nothing! LOL) http://cgi.ebay.com/INVACARE-STRATOS-PORTABLE-AEROSOL-NEBULIZER-COMPRESSOR_W0QQitemZ180038211568QQihZ008QQcategoryZ75079QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem -- Traveling with a nebulizer? Hi. I am new to this group. I have mild persistent asthma and terrible allergies. My FEV1% ranges from 74-76%. Since my diagnosis is considered "mild," I just wondered what you folks thought about travel and using a nebulizer. My pulmonologist recommends "neverleaving home without one." My home unit is large and heavy, not something I want to travel with. However, my insurance doesn't cover the smaller, portable nebs. Considering my level of asthma, would you folks agree to always take a neb with you? I always carry my inhaler w/spacer. I will be vacationing in a cooler climate (mid-Atlantic) in two weeks for six days. I haven't ever had a "serious" attack or been hospitalized. I'm seeking advice on whether or not to make a portable neb purchase. Thank you for your help. Jackie in Dallas
Guest guest
I was actually looking at this model! Thank you. If you think it's a good one, then I may go with that. My husband (the eternal skeptic) thinks I should give my trip a try with just my inhaler (Xoponex) and my spacer. I rarely ever travel to cooler temperatures, so I have no idea what to expect. I was thinking about e-Bay, as well. It seems that most of the portable nebs on there are offered by medical suppliers and offer guarantees/warranties. Since it would be more for travel (I do not work outside the home right now), I would prefer not to spend hundreds of dollars. The Omron 6 oz. battery operated unit is my dream neb. Thank you for your response. > > Unfortunately I have no real " advice " for you... Guest guest
You all should realize that selling medical equipment is prohibited by Ebay. You have to be a real fool to buy medical equipment there. If those sellers don't care about the rules, what makes you think they care about what they are selling? Guest guest
Where exactly do you see the prohibition for selling nebulizers? Unless you are aware of some rule I've never heard of I think your wrong. Basically all a nebulizer is is a small air compressor. Re: Re: Traveling with a nebulizer? Guest guest
Look at their list of prohibited items. Medical equipment is one of them. Re: Re: Traveling with a nebulizer? Guest guest
Nebulizers are NOT prohibited. There are rules that must be followed and I do believe you have to have a prescription but you CAN buy them at Ebay. I would suggest reading the entire section regarding medical devices: {eBay allows the sale of professional medical devices to authorized purchasers and sellers of medical devices must strictly follow certain rules set out below when listing such items on eBay.} http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/medical-devices.html You have to read everything there. There is even a specific category for Respiratory Aids http://health-beauty.listings.ebay.com/Medical-Special-Needs_Respiratory-Aids_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ75076QQsocmdZListingItemList If you are going to purchase a nebulizer from Ebay I would suggest reviewing the sellers authorization to sell and contact Ebay if you have any concerns. Otherwise it looks to me like you can get a good price there if your insurance does not cover them. Lots of people purchase medical equipment from the internet and there is nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with getting it at Ebay either. Re: Re: Traveling with a nebulizer? Guest guest
Sorry. I didn't intend to stir the pot. Back to my original question; you folks are more experienced with this. Given my scenario, do you think I can manage my asthma with my Xoponex inhaler w/spacer? I would prefer not to have to spend additional dollars. This year's medical expenses (with health insurance) have exceeded $6,000, year-to-date. Thank you. > > Nebulizers are NOT prohibited. Guest guest
How well controlled is your asthma w/the inhaler? How long has it been since you've had to use the neb?? Will you be around things that can cause you to have an attack? The answers to these questions will determine whether or not you need to take the nebulizer w/you!!scubajackie_99 wrote: Sorry. Guest guest
Nobody can answer this question for you except your doctor. Everybody has different levels of severity in their asthma and it goes case by case. If you have never had to use a nebulizer before, you might be safe travelling w/o one. are there emergency medical facilities where you are going? I, personally do not travel with my neb, but know others who have to. good luck, angie > > > > Nebulizers are NOT prohibited. Guest guest
sorry, I meant you and/or your doctor. Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Jackie. I too have mild, persistent asthma. I use a portable and it's saved my life a couple of times. Although a portable isn't cheap, it's much better to travel with than a bigger one because of its smaller size and you won't have to worry about finding electrical outlets wherever you go if you get one that works on batteries like mine. My insurance covered mine, but I had to show them the real need for the portable, which your insurance may do if your doctor would prescribe a portable or show the need for it. I attend college classes. My portable is great for that because I don't have to plug it in, and it's noiseless and light weight. I can carry it in my pocket or purse. Take care and good luck, scubajackie_99 wrote: Hi. I am new to this group.I have mild persistent asthma and terrible allergies. My FEV1% ranges from 74-76%. Guest guest
I guess I'm lucky. My insurance does cover a portable neb as long as it's not my primary one. I just got an Omron NE-U22V. Great unit, but pricey if you're paying for it on your own. Love that it's battery operated. Hope you do well during your trip. ~Velvet
