Guest guest
I am about 25 pounds overweight and wonder how this affects asthma. Has anyone found a correlation? Thanks for any info you could provide as there is not much info on it. Dyana
Guest guest
I believe being over weight complicates everything. The better shape you are in the better your body can deal with illness and disease. This is true for the common cold, recovering from stroke or heart attack, I would say asthma too. > > I am about 25 pounds overweight and wonder how this affects asthma. > Has anyone found a correlation? > > Thanks for any info you could provide as there is not much info on it. > > Dyana >
Guest guest
Yes, I have lost weight when working on my asthma, and no, it did not help one iota. My asthma (which I have had for > 30 years) is under control except for exercise-induced asthma which is severe, and nothing seems to help (although Buteyko breathing just might be helping, from what I can tell so far). I lost 38 pounds because the doctor said perhaps that would help and it did not at all. After trying many approaches, the only thing that worked to lose weight was elimination (almost completely down to nothing) of all sugar and wheat. This was difficult to sustain, so once it was clear this did not help at all, I reintroduced small amounts of sugar and wheat and gained 30 of those pounds back. I have this theory that if I could " cure " the asthma, then I would not have this strong reaction to sugar and wheat and the weight would get under control, rather than the other way around. But not all asthma is the same, and the doctors say that losing weight can help, so even though that is not my experience, I would not rule it out. Best wishes. --dawn > Has anyone lost weight and found that it has GREATLY improved asthma? > > How does advair afffect weight? > > > Dyana > > > > >
Guest guest
My asthma sometimes clears up for a while and sometimes comes back, and this is true whether I'm overweight or underweight. I'm not sure the connection isn't the other way around: Surely I'm not the only asthmatic who slows way down on exercising when their asthma flares up (and thereby risks gaining weight) or loses their appetite (and some weight) if it really goes out of control. > > Has anyone lost weight and found that it has GREATLY improved asthma? > > How does advair afffect weight? > > > Dyana >
Guest guest
I think weight has a lot to do with many health problems. Maybe you don't think losing weight has any benefit to your asthma but think about it, whenever your lungs are struggling, so is your heart. The less work your heart has to do, the better. I have never been overweight. I don't think having a weight problem has any affect on the lungs because I've always had terrible asthma. But weight DOES have an affect on your heart and your heart is working hard enough when your body's not getting enough oxygen. Water, water, water!!! Dehydration is the biggest reason why we have asthma attacks! The lungs close off to hold on to whatever water they have. Whenever you start having breathing problems, start drinking. It will make a big difference. I have been taking Advair for about five years and haven't had any weight problems. Here are some interesting websites to check out:http://www.authentic-breathing.com/http://www.watercure.com/--- In asthma , "Dyana Aria-Males" wrote:>> Has anyone lost weight and found that it has GREATLY improved asthma?> > How does advair afffect weight?> > > Dyana>
