Hi,

My name is and my husband at age 30 has just been diagnosed

with RA. Just had our second visit to the doctor today to come home

with some medications that seem extremely scary. They want him to

take methotrexate, folic acid, and prednisone. The doctor says that

he has had this for the last four years or so and it has to be

approached very aggressively. If there is anyone out there who could

be of help as to some diet tips, medication tips or any advice at all

that we should try or good or bad stories about the medications I have

listed it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

Mike

is on five mg of pred a day and he is to take 10 mg of the

mtx and 1 mg of folic acid. Have you had anyother problems with the

mtx besides hair loss and I assume it is normal that she requires

him to have a chest x ray and bllod test once a month. Is this

something that you have to go through aslo?

Thanks in advance for all your support and help,

I had to have a chest X-ray, TB test and blood work before I started

MTX...then blood work every two weeks for a while then it spread out

to once a month. The only time they did another chest x-ray was when

I got drug induced pneumonitis which is a serious side effect that

happens to some on MTX. I had to stop it immediately and wait for my

lungs to heal. I was lucky it was caught early enough that I did not

have any permenent damage to my lungs.

But the baseline tests and x-rays are normal as well as frequent

blood tests...many of the RA meds are very hard on the liver. They

want to make sure they catch any problem before it becomes serious.

Also my doc said absolutely no alcohol while on MTX.
