Hence, the Municipal Commissioner, Fire Brigade, Police officials deserve a pat on their respective backs for evacuating in time the thousands of families at risk from the floods and relocating them at safer places. Those whose houses have collapsed have been granted an ad interim relief measure of Rs. 1000 along with 5 litres of Kerosene, and 10 kgs of rice and wheat. There has been a little bit of political posturing for the camera like symbolic distribution of free chaddars. But barring this minimal show, most of the work has been genuine. Even the exposed potholes have been temporarily patched up with a rubble mix which, though not ideal, is better than nothing. Mumbai in comparison seems to be lagging behind. Pune has lost a negligible few lives as compared to the thousand plus of Mumbai. Of course, the deluge in Mumbai can never be compared with the Pune floods. Nevertheless, kudos to Pune, its people and the administration for facing this calamity bravely.
