It's the start of the month of Ramadan(Ramzaan) out here and the whole of Gulf

is awake till wee hours of morning, before they all go to sleep at dawn, & wake

up late in the afternoons,to then prepare yummy tasty dishes, to break their

fast,at sunset.

Although, one does expect, the local population to reduce weight during these days

of fasting, but the food feast that most of the restaurants dish out, these

days,is GASTRONOMIC DELIGHT.

Some 6-7 starters,6-7 main course meals, plus an equal number of desserts.

This month, we also see mouth-watering roadside cuisines on display, from

Asia,Arab and some African countries.

Long ago,in 1995,when I landed here, without fair knowledge of this local

customs,I was pleasantly surprised, when I was informed about the normal hospital

timings these 30days,to be from 7pm to 1.30am past midnite, local time and was

still most shocked to see 65-80yr old doddering patients, walk into my OPD for a

routine eye check up, around the time, when my own grandparents would never dream

of keeping themselves awake.

Nowadays,we start our surgical cases at around 3am,and discharge our patients at

aorund 7am.

Here's wishing all my Muslim friends,Ramadan Kareem.
