The I you are talking about that says " now is not enough " ....is the Ego pretending to be the Being......in other words ......The Being got hijacked......with its Manifesting Form......got its Identity stuck in form consciousness in other words.............. Eckhardt is teaching us to pull our identity of Self back out of its identification with forms.....whether they be Thought Forms or Physical Forms Of the Human Body.....in other words Freeing up your Being.....Liberating your Being.....Their is a wonderful book that hit the market a few months back called The Liberation of Being.....an Enneagram Primer on the Nine Facets of Unity....or Nine Psychological Nationalities....by Eli Jaxon Bear.....www.lela.org....i believe is the web site.... The " I " that is unhappy with this moment is the Little Me ....or the story of Me that we keep telling ourselves in order to have a better ,,,different..or More of Me in the Future...but of course it never arrives......cuz it is always the Now...Which the Little me detests..... Guest guest
Dear Stefan, What do you get for holding the belief that people should not be identified with the personal " I " or that this identification means one is " stuck? " Is this thought peaceful or stressful? Love, Carol P.S. My experience of Eli's Enneagram stuff is...if you want more concepts about yourself, more things to identify with, more burdensome thoughts about " Little Me, " get yourself an Enneagram number to label yourself with. If you want to know the truth, skip the labels and inquire directly into the Self. Guest guest
Ooh I missed this one. I remember reading Ramana and hearing Sherman talk about the I. As I recall the identification with the I is not the " problem. " It's believing any of the stories. said that the difference between the (I don't remember the word for the awakened) and the (I don't remember the word for the unawakened) is that the awakened doesn't believe the stories. The stories still go on, it's just not believing them. comments? Re: Lovely Picture... Guest guest
Dear Steve, Makes total sense to me. If we had absolutely no identity-attachment to the " I, " there would be no life as we perceive it. Which could be a good thing, I guess, but *this now* can also be a good thing...as folks like Sherman and always tell us! I think this is why the bliss-out kinds of spiritual practices didn't work for me. You come out of the bliss-out and you have *this* to deal with until and unless you become " established " in the bliss-out. In my experience the bliss-out is a very dysfunctional state and makes a person very high-maintenance for those around them, so there's no good reason to stay in it if you're leaving everyone else behind. If we're in this illusion we may as well work and play within it. Inquiry's the best way I know how to do it. Guest guest
Bev Can I find that for me? Yes, I was more interested in the philosophy in that moment, than connecting. AS I write this, guilt, shame. Steve, you know you really want connection. How could you do this? She'll see that I'm fucked up. What's wrong with me? I'll never get this or have lasting friends. I'm sick and tired being driven by other's actions. I'm tired of my fears of others reacting to me. just a start. thanks Steve RE: Re: Lovely Picture... Yes. Guest guest
Dear Sara, Sherman is a nonduality teacher who met Gangaji when he was in prison. He began teaching himself, at her behest. I only know about him through Steve the Slaw, who invokes him from time to time, and from what I read about him in the book Dialogues With Emerging Spiritual Teachers. was interviewed for that book too, as was Eckhart Tolle -- I guess they've all emerged now. Way back in July 2002 you wrote the following which sums it up for me. " Thoughts come up. Controlling what we think has been a stuggle for people for millenia. If we try to change a belief or let go of it, we are focused on it, we give it power. As I understand things, the stories disappear when they are no longer believed. We change our beliefs through investigation as to the truth of them. When we investigate a belief, the mind becomes an ally in the search for our truth around the belief. " Take care ... Connecting is more important than philosophy. Connecting is good. I should feel guilty for being more interested in philosophy. Take care ...
