Guest guest
Most drug companies try to pick a name that says what they do or how they are taken. Singulair is a once a day pill to help you breath. Once a day = single and breath = air. So you get Singulair. There is also one called Airobid. Again, breath = air and BID is the medical abbreviation for twice a day. So you get Airobid. Singulair is a maintenance medication. You will have to take it for a few days before you start seeing results. The underling cause of asthma is air way inflammation and singulair helps to prevent that. In a way if nothing happens, its working. Its hard to believe that. Singulair is designed to help stop leukotrienes. Like histamines, leukotrienes will recruit mediators that will inflame the airway causing them to swell. > > Hi, > No longer able to tolerate months of sleepless, hellish nights, and > breathless days, I broke down and got a prescription for " Singulair " > (where do they get these stupid names?) Guest guest
I still take Claritin with my Singulair. It probably won't hurt you but if you're not sure, ask your doctor. mylhasa_graciesue wrote: The doc has decided to give me Singulair- I pick it up today from my pharmacy THANK GOD! Guest guest
Want to ask you about a type of medication called singulair. How well does it work? What are your experiences with it? Is it effective? How about side effects? I read the package, but often what people experience and what they're told about something can be 2 different things. I realize some of you talked about being on this, and please forgive me for not remembering at the time I didn't know I'd be put on this.... So now that I've talked to the doctor,.... They're changing and doubling my dosage of advair, keeping the albuterol, and adding singulair (damn this thing was expensive ). I hope it works but to be honest with you, I'm at wit's end, just trying to breathe. I'm afraid that its progressing into something else beyond asthma...ever since December I've been steadily getting worse and no relief in symptoms... Hope you can post something encouraging, Noah Be a better Globetrotter. Get better travel answers from someone who knows.Yahoo! Answers - Check it out. Guest guest
I like it Noah. It has helped my seasonal allergies. I notice if I forget to take it. I keep forgetting to take my qvar daily but I remember the singulair – don’t ask – long story. So anyway, I think the singulair is helping the asthma too even on the days when I don’t remember the qvar. When I take both for several days in a row, I feel pretty good. I hope this works for you. I’m so sorry you’ve been struggling so much. Have you had allergy tests? Food allergy tests? Have you had all kinds of blood work done? Do you go to any specialists or is this a family doctor? Oh – and I have had no side effects with the singulair!!!!! Amazing because I have side effects with everything else it seems. I do know people who take advair and singulair and I think qvar also with those. I think so anyway. maybe you’ll find the right combo for you. have faith!!! It’s important to believe that the solution is out there – its’ what keeps us looking for answers. Guest guest
I add Singulair during allergy season when my symptoms aren' controlled by the Advair. It works well for me. Guest guest
I do not think it is an exaggeration to say that when I started on Singulair more than a decade ago, it really improved my life, enough so that I have not dared to go off from it ever since. I was told then that the fact that I had " triad asthma " was what made it particularly helpful. --dawn Want to ask you about a type of medication called singulair. How well does it work? Guest guest
> Want to ask you about a type of medication called singulair. I was switched to Singulair in January when the doc found out the Accolate I *was* on for a number of years was raising my liver enzymes, a side effect that was well known but not well pushed strongly enough to the doctors. I hate to say it, but the Accolate worked *better*. This has been my worst winter and spring in years, *but* I'm also working with the doc to regulate my thyroid med dosage as well as rapidly approaching menopause, so those interfere with how I feel in general, too. My son, on the other hand, was put on Singulair when it first came out and he has a few allergies that upset his asthma, and they're pretty well handled by the med. When he stopped taking it for a few months during his rebellious teenage years his asthma started to act up. He's now older and wiser. Sorry about the price - we have a long-term med prescription plan so three months only costs $30. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
Singulair is a fantastic drug. It works well and has few side effects. There is talk about Merck bringing out a second generation Singulair with Loratadine in it too. Loratadine is the active drug in Clairaton. They work well together. I take both individually for allergies. Asthma is an allergy you know. Good luck. Want to ask you about a type of medication called singulair. How well does it work?
