I hope you find a new pediatrician soon. Something is not right with the treatment if your son is hurting like that. I'm in the same boat as your son :) First they thought it was asthma so they gave me inhalers, nebs, and steroids. NOTHING. Then I ASKED for some allergy tests, and bam. Positive for wheat, rye, soy, and who knows what else when they do more. I've never had allergies of any sort, just developed them 3 months ago. Something triggered it to go off. I've been having hives a few months before that also...I suspect it was a mold where I was living in an old apartment. Has your son had his allergies checked? Allergies=asthma. I never believed it and now I'm living it. Maybe he's eating something that's causing it or something around him? Keep a diary of everytime he complains or you notice something and write down the 5 w's at the same time. It must be so hard for you as a mother to see your young son suffer like this. Just be diligent with the doctors and don't stop til you find one you like. Has he had

breathing tests done? My numbers were normal, but they still said I have mild asthma. I'm going to try "biovent" and "broncosoothe" from native remedies. I'm going to try and do everything until I figure it out. Your son is so lucky to have a mother like you! I'll let you know the results if it helps my breahting/chest pain. I know... It worried me... I knew exactly the pain he was talking about, I too get it some times... A sharp pain that hurts on inhale... The deeper the inhale, the sharper the pain... It's there for a few minutes, and goes away as quickly as it comes on. I've found an online group of mommies in my area, so I'm hoping to be able to find a pediatrician through their recommendations!

I sincerely apologize if I offended you with my stationaries. It was by no means, my intent. A simple request would have been enough, no need to get snappy, I'm pretty easy to get along with. I didn't realize that they were bothering anyone. I will try to remember to turn of my "fancy garbage" so as not to upset you.

Thank you for letting me know they were an issue.

Shefy,

He has not had his allergies checked as they simply keep saying it's "seasonal" and not SPECIFIC allergies... So no one has taken the step to test for any allergies. He did have a spirometry test done at the LAST appointment (see my original post for numbers)... Had it done again on Thursday and the numbers were "normal" so the new doc decided he DIDN'T have asthma... I don't think he even LOOKED at the numbers from the last visit. His first question to me was "have you TRIED allergy medicines?" I so wanted to ask him if he had TRIED reading the chart that was right in front of him that has EVERY visit my child has made to EVERY pediatrician since he was BORN!!!! What's the use of my providing the records if no one is going to look at them??!!Ok, I'll quit now since I'm about to go on a tirade! LOL

haha i totally understand what you mean. i don't hesitate to tell them, i just tell them "i think all that info. should be in my record..." well you should be happy it's not asthma! :) I sure was! it doesn't sound like he has it since he's not responding to the meds. i'm no doctor, but i've gone through the same thing the poor little guy has. it gets very frustrating and depressing, i hope he's doing ok :)i'm looking into seeing a ND, they also have an MD so even better! I'm going to check for metal toxicity, candida, and leaky gut. I'm suspecting one of them... Write down EVERYTHING your son eats and how he feels right after and hours and days after. I heard some foods can stay in your system for almost a week. Hope you guys get better :)shefyMadre2sirstinksalot wrote: Shefy, He has not had his allergies checked as they simply keep saying it's "seasonal" and not SPECIFIC allergies... No Shefy... That's the thing...the albuterol HELPED... The allergy meds didn't!! I'm becoming more and more convinced that it is asthma... This doctor didn't look at his FIRST numbers... Just the numbers from that morning... After he'd been doing the albuterol treatments...

oh wow, ok. i think a better thign to look at would be how your son feels. it might be hard for him to explain at 5, but it's well worth it. my numbers also went up with albuterol, but i still had the same physical symptoms, but i think a lot of people who don't have asthma would have the same result. albuterol opens the bronchial passages...have your doctor do a "mistreatment of albuterol" and have before/after breathing tests done. that way he'll be right there to see the results off hand. Also have him listen to your son's lungs before and after...does he continue to wheeze/high pitch breathing/coughing/mucus. whatever symptoms your son is having during his breathing attacks.i really hope he gets better soonshefyMadre2sirstinksalot wrote: No Shefy... The first doctor did all that... He listened to his lungs and said that he heard him wheezing so we did a spirometry, where his %FEV1 was 76% and FEF was 45% . After the breathing treatment his numbers went to 101% and 112% respectively. Which is why we were sent home with a nebulizer and albuterol. His coughing spells were decreased from an average of 10 minutes to maybe 2 minutes... And during the night he coughs once or twice (total coughs, not spells)... Rather than several spells... This doctor on Thursday did NOTHING because his spirometry numbers were "normal"... Said that there was no reason for him to be on the albuterol, as his numbers didn't show asthma... But he never flipped the chart and looked at the ORIGINAL spirometry numbers...

I hope you find a new pediatrician soon. Something is not right with the treatment if your son is hurting like that.

Ok, yesterday we had what was SUPPOSED to be Ty's 2 week follow up to see how the nebulizer is helping and to discuss "prevention". Well, they stuck us with a DIFFERENT doctor who, after the spirometry decided that HE doesn't feel that what Ty has is asthma, but rather seasonal allergies. I'm so frustrated!! We've been down the ALLERGY road before... Allergy meds don't TOUCH his cough, the nebulizer treatments were really cutting down on the cough. He put him on singulair, which I KNOW is originally an asthma med, so I'm going to see how it works... But I am looking for a new pediatrician. Is there anyone here in the Orlando area that could give me a good referral!!??

Then tonight, while we were at dinner, Ty suddenly stopped and had this odd look on his face. When I asked what was wrong he said "My teta hurts when I breathe" (Teta is the word our bilingual household uses for chest)... So this makes me really concerned and VERY hurried to find a new pediatrician!!!!!!!

definitely find a new doctor :) Madre2sirstinksalot wrote: The first doctor did all that... He listened to his lungs and said that he heard him wheezing so we did a spirometry, where his %FEV1 was 76% and FEF was

45% . -- Re: So frustrated... Just be

diligent with the doctors and don't stop til you find one you like. Has he had breathing tests done? My numbers were normal, but they still said I have mild asthma. I'm going to try "biovent" and "broncosoothe" from native remedies. I'm going to try and do everything until I figure it out. Your son is so lucky to have a mother like you! I don't even know what Sue means by "fancy garbage." Don't pay any attention to her. Your posts are fine. Madre2sirstinksalot wrote: I sincerely apologize if I offended you with my stationaries. It was by no means, my intent. A simple request would have been

Have that doctor go back and look at the original numbers before saying your son does not have asthma. Madre2sirstinksalot wrote: The first doctor did all that... He listened to his lungs and said that he heard him wheezing so we did a spirometry, where his %FEV1 was 76% and FEF was
