Guest guest
Dear Kishore, Good attempt! Let's see how the other movie afficionados fare at this quiz. Erratum: In question 7, the song 'aaj mausam bada beimaan hai' is from the film Loafer as Kishore correctly mentioned. I was thinking of formulating a question from Sabak on another rain song " barkha rani zara jam ke barso " when I was typing that. Guest guest
Ameet, most of Anu Malik's old songs are like that... inane lyrics and music that stays back in your head. Remember, Tan tana tan tan tan taara, ek garam chai ki pyaali ho and julie !!! The entire neighbourhood battalion of kids would keep singing them and their parents cringing! Thankfully he followed them up with good numbers in Refugee, Asoka and the like. BTW, do any of you remember seeing Anu Malik on screen? There may be more, but I remember two movies where he acted. Guest guest
Dear Anshu, It was nice to read the nice narration of " Adventures in MGIMS Quarters " followed by " Monsoon Songs " - the quiz and fast reply from Kishore. We are still waiting for drops of rains.Today it seems little bit cloudy. It will be a pleasure because we are adventuring in surviving out of draught.Anyway nice writeup and quiz. Mukund(1974) Monsoon songs On Ameet's request, here's a small quiz for all of you. The monsoons are around the corner and what better than respite from the scorching sun. Hindi films have always celebrated the rains with their melodious songs ( yes...there are exceptions like Anu Malik singing 'dekho baarish ho rahi hai, it's raining, it's raining'...Ugh!). So sit down with a plate of garam pakore and cup of chai, rack your brains and try to answer these questions on rain songs. 1. One of the classic memories of a couple walking in a rain drenched evening under an umbrella is the Raj Kapoor- Nargis hit from Shri 420 'Pyar hua iqrar hua' . During the picturization of this Shankar-Jaikishen masterpiece, three children wearing raincoats walk past. Who were these kids? 2. An Indian movie - subtitled ' Once upon a time in India' for western audiences- has a popular rain song penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by AR Rehman. Which song am I referring to? 3. Whenever lyricists evoke visual images of 'saawan', reference to the 'papiha' is inevitable. Remember the lyrical ' Bole re papihara' from Guddi? Can you name the singer of this song and its Music director? 4. These folk songs are said to have originated in Mirzapur. They are sung during the rains and are named after the black monsoon clouds. Which format of folk songs am I referring to? 5.What is common to these rain songs: Phir se aiyo badra bidesi (film: Namkeen), Badi der se megha barse (Namkeen) and Chhoti si kahaani se (Ijaazat). 6.
