Guest guest
Yes, Shyam, We did have some great drama in those days. There were some serious plays, however, most of the successful ones were comedies. My personal most sucessful drama was Moruchi Mavshi, where I played the Mavshi (Aunt). It was a Sevagram first, a male playing the female lead. Till the end of my Sevagram stay, I was called Mavshi by all the locals and the staff children. The climax came when I once told the wife of an attendant to lie down on an examination table. Then I got called away. Before I could return, our HOD Madame Trivedi wanted came there and asked the lady, " Who told you to lie here? " In all innocense, the lady said, " Mavshi! " Assuming that she meant the female attendant, Madame got very angry and told her to step down. It was only when I returned, was the mystery of the missing Mavshi solved. We were fortunate enough to have a lot of dramatic and musical talent in 1974 batch followed two years later by the equally talented 1976 batch. So we could really whip up some good entertainment. Privately, however, I feel that we would not have been so successful, if we had television and the internet to compete against.
