Well, it would sound pretty stupid if I didn't do anything and just kept having asthma attacks all night when nothing at all was working when the Clariton did. I haven't had an asthma attack in almost 24 hrs, that's amazing!

I would not suggest clariton for asthma relief or to stop an attack. However I would suggest it for daily use as a controller. I use thegeneric form of clariton everyday for allergies.Asthma is an allergy. The autoimmune system responds to a trigger.Mast cells will de-granulate releasing leukotrienes, histamines andother inflammatory mediators. Medications like clairaton help blockthe histamines. Medications like Singulair block leukotrienes. Byblocking these inflammatory chemicals, they can reduce theinflammation that causes an asthma attack.Another medication choice is a steroid. Steroids help prevent andreduce inflammation in the air way too. Steroids are goodcontrollers too.For fast relief of an asthma attack you should take a medication likealbuterol, levalbuterol or a combination drug with albuterol in it.>> I tried Clariton last night and it stopped my asthma attacks. I didn't need to use the inhaler or nebilizer all night long. It must be an allergy. I didn't realize Clariton would stop an attack. Anyone know that?> > Char>

All I am saying is that clariton is not a rescue drug. If you want

to use it as a controller then take one everyday. If you only take

it when an attack happens, you have an increased chance of dying.

Just as the black box warring on Advair implies, you have an

increased chance of an asthma related death if this product is used

as a rescue medication. Please be aware of that.
