Ravin,

I presume that there must be some mechanism to restart your receiving these

bulletins. However, in the present format, I don't think that it is worth

the effort.

Of course, the obit written by Anshu about Prabha's mother is a well written

piece. A nice poem followed by flowery prose. However, it is like a fragrant

flower blooming in the desert. No-one there to appreciate its beauty.

What could be done by the powers that be would be to revamp the entire

bulletin. Its tilt should be corrected from what has been to what will be.

So, we could have an article about the planned alumni guest house. We could

have a regular annual feature about the batch which returns for the Jubilee.

There could be interviews with staff and the students.

I can understand that due to budgetary constraints this would be restricted

to a four page sheet. Everything could be kept short and sweet. Obits have

to be limited to a paragraph. With cheap digital cameras and electronic

printing, we could have more pictures of recent additions to the college

infrastructure.

The present annual frequency definitely needs to be changed if this bulletin

wants to be relevant. With emails at the speed of light, print media can

never dream of competing with the immediacy of e-communications. However, a

quarterly report would be much better.

A small list of children of Alumni, who have succeeded in getting admission

to MGIMS would be liked by old members. Maybe, you could invite guest

letters from NRI MGIMSites. They can guide the present interested students

on how to go abroad and what the pitfalls are. Relevant letters from this

email group could be reprinted there.

Some comedy could also be added. For example, recently, there were some

visiting dignitaries to Sevagram. As is usual at MGIMS, the students were

told to put up a variety program, which per force included a dance. As soon

as a staff member made the announcement that so and so would now perform the

dance, a student member from the back rows shouted in a Dharam like garam

voice, " Basanti! In kutton ke saamne mat naach. " This was followed by much

laughter among the back benchers and scurrying by the senior staff members

trying to locate the culprit.

Of course, this is only an irreverent example, but you get the drift. I'm

sure all of you must be having some opinion about how the bulletin should

be. If you write in this email space, maybe some one may notice and respond

to the criticism and just possibly correct the deficiencies.

And if someone is awake out there, please see that Ravin's name is added to

the posting list.

Nice suggestions, Kishore, I agree with you, hopefully someone will notice

and act.

And yes, images do make anything attractive.

Good points there Kishoreda.

Believe me, when the News Bulletin was the only source of getting News about

MGIMS,I would read about 80% of the contents, while on way back from Postoffice

to home, here in Riyadh and Seema would then immediately snatch it and read the

whole 4pgs.

Thanks to this site,we both behave like civilised people, now.

Yes,we could have the e-Bulletin instead and since it would have the staff

editing it,maybe we would get to read some serious news out of MGIMS,from a

different perspective.

The photographs of new additional structures,of some functions chaired by our

teachers and staff ,would surely be a valuable set of collections.

BTW,THE BASANTI,MAT....dialogue incident,must have been a classic scene.Wish I

was there, then in that auditorium,to enjoy that bit.

Dear Kishore, Ravin and Shyam,

Your comments, criticism and suggestions for the MGIMS Bulletin are well taken.

I'll make every possible attempt to improve the quality of the Bulletin.

For starters, I would appreciate it if the alumni contribute actively to the

Bulletin in the form of news items and articles. I have a special request for

the 81 batch alumni to write in with their experiences of their silver jubilee

celebrations at dr_anshu@....

Also those of you who haven't received the copies of the Bulletins may please

write to me directly with their correct postal addresses so that the alumni

address database can be updated.

Thank you for your valuable suggestions.

Dear Anshu,

I just recieved the bulletins. Congratulations for a job very well done.My

mother's obit was beautifully written.

Kishoreda has a lot of constructive criticism to give you. While I understand

Kishoreda's point of view, I realise that there must have been a tremendous

amount of spadework that you would have had to do to bring out the bulletin.

Congratulations - and thank you - for the effort. Even though print cannot keep

pace with e-communications, there is something very personal about actually

recieving a letter / bulletin. It gives a sense of belonging because someone

actually put in the effort to send it to you.

So, Ravin, it is worth the effort to get your name on the mailing list. BTW,

you may not have recieved the bulletins in a long while because I think it

wasn't being published at all. Thanks to Anshu, it is back in existence.

Thanks Nishi,

And yes! Prabha, I did appreciate Anshu's article on your mother. Great

stuff there.

However, my crticism stands, though I think Prabha means to say that we

should be thankful that we are at least getting the bulletin.

Dear Prabha and Anshu,

If I have somehow conveyed the impression that I did not appreciate Anshu's

hard word in bringing out the bulletin, I most sincerely apologize.

I never suggested nor meant anything remotely like that. What I suggested

were some points to make the Bulletin more lively. A Bulletin is a

chronology of all that happened and is planned. I just thought that the

emphasis should be shifted from obits to future plans.

I am sure that Anshu and her team has put in a lot of hard work and precious

time in producing this journal. People who are not connected on the internet

would be definitely more appreciative than any of us could possibly be.

Again, my heartfelt regrets, if I have hurt anyone (Anshu / Prabha).

I had no reason to get hurt, Kishoreda. The apology was not required !
