My health has been downhill since I got mono too. I seemingly got

over it at one stage only to start getting things like gall stones,

hypoglycemia, then MCS, and candida, etc. It was amazing. I never used to be

sick, even

with colds and flue. I have ME & have been seeing Dr Byron Hyde. But he doesn't

treat people; he just diagnoses them.

They could'a just asked me, and I would have told them this was so! ;)

My CFIDS started with bad Mono (glandular fever). I was so sick I

missed a month of high school, and then had to drop to half days

because I was passing out asleep in class (of course, they made me go

in the morning with gym class first- uh, worst time of day for me, and

gym class when you are recovering from mono!?!). 21+ years later, I'm

still sick. I had an atypical case of mono in a way, it messed up

something that made me so incredibly hungry- opposite of what usually

happens with mono. Also, I got this horrible, painful rash on my

hands. My mom wasn't too good with me, she just let me suffer and

didn't pay attention. That also didn't help. But geez, it takes these

genuises this many years to figure out what I could have told them from

my severe cognitive symptoms and headaches in that first 6 months after

mono? I think they don't listen to us too well, eh?

Interesting! I had a bad roller-blading fall in 1998,

and since then received a positive Mono test AND as of

November/05 positive Lyme test results.

Hi--

I had a 'flu that I caught from my 3 yr. old son. Neither of us had either

had the 'flu before. We were in England when this happened. He fully

recovered. I was well in two weeks, but had relapses over the years until

the " full blown " illness.

I never had mono to my knowledge. I think there's more going on than mono

here...but I wonder if any infection, given the right circumstances, could

cause the brain injury these researchers are investigating?

Hi--

My symptoms worsened after a UT infection and then bronchitis.

My late husband also only really believed the illness was real after

listening to Dr. Cheney. I think he was in denial. That may have been the

case with your husband and your sons. My son is 32 and doesn't remember when

I had a lot of energy. So I understand the sadness that brings. Still, at

Thanksgiving, he said to me " Mother, you were never the world's best cook.

But you made lots of my favorite foods and I always knew they were made with

a mother's love. " I laughed anc cried at the same time. That was our

" Hallmark moment " :>) He also told me how much it meant to him just to have

me " hanging around " --he didn't care about " quality time " and doing lots of

things...just knew I was there. So...

Things do get better...Thanks for sharing.

Hi:

Most people get mono and don't realize that they haveit- they don't get tested

because they get better and the virus goes dormant.

No one ever gets " rid " of EBV- it lays dormant until it's triggered off again-

sometimes never.

Flu like symptoms are known to occur with mono/EBV.

Hi Jeanette:

I feel very noise sensitive, I guess you'd call it.

I need my peace and quiet also- I try to get out to the horse farm on good

days because it is so peaceful there. Very scenic too.

It must be hard for other folks to understand, like your mom. I have a sister

who likes to call me to " vent " about life and as much as I want to help her it

puts me out for quite awhile!

Hi Wanda,

yes, I feel so bad cause I don't sit there and talk to my Mom, and I know she is

dying to talk, and I on the other hand am dying to get away. Oh Gosh....lol

I just can't take being around hardly anyone anymore. I have become such a

hermit...and I used to be so outgoing, and always doing things, damn.......

After many months of not being able to finish sentenses as I would

forget what I was thinking ........ I was getting frustrated. Now I seem to talk

very fast most of the time. It is because I am afraid I am going to forget what

I was saying, so I try to get it out before I do forget. ( I think of it as

trying to 'out fox' M.E. ) Consequently talking very quickly. Sometimes I think

it is 6 of one and half a dozen of another, as my friends aren't thrilled

about me talking so quickly. But I get so frustrated when I forget mid sentence

or half way through explaining something.

Jeannette,

I'm that way on some days. I have a husband and 3 teenagers. There is

constant noise here, lots of music and very loud! Ugh .... it makes me feel

more scrambled. Most days, I'm just fighting to keep up and my famiy doesn't

really understand that. Now that I'm unemployed, I thought it would be nice to

hang with my mom some days, but..............I'm just not up for company very

often. I too was very active, loved crowds on occasion (parades, ball games,

etc), outgoing.............this is such a drastic change........sometimes, I

think THAT is the hardest part!

Hi Jane,

yeah, I agree, and it is hard for other to understand who we are now as opposed

to who we were before.

Thanks Jeanette...I'll have to write down the name of the movie and put it

in my wallet--on the rare occasions I get to a video store, I can't remember

what I wanted to rent! I do remember reading that it's a true story!

Thank you!

Hi Theresa,

yeah, mine is there and I see once in awhile, if I got better, I know it would

all come back, but most of the time I don't feel well enough to laugh at

anything. But when I do, it feels good.

Shan,

That's what I was trying to say...except that I can't afford to buy books so

get all my books from the library. Sometimes there's a used book sale or I

can buy some online really cheap. We may as well look on the bright side :>)

I find that I remember magazines better--the photos, I suppose. I can pick

up a ten yr. old magazine in a dr's office, for instance and realize I've

read it...Maybe I should read children's books--they have so many

illustrations :>)

Blessings to you, too!

Hi Jeanette:

I have never had mono. In fact when I became sick with CFIDS, I had such a

severe sore throat that they tested me for mono and it was negative. They said

it was a virus that was causing the sore throat.

My sore throat was very severe for a bout a month. I was on pain pills and

also two antibiotics because the first one wouldn't work on the sore throat. My

throat was all swollen.
