Hi Dennis,

I took Lipitor for years and really like it. Then when our insurance

changed I had to switch to Zocor. So far it works for me and doesn't

increase my muscle pain. A email friend said she took Crestor but it

gave her several muscle pain. She doesn't have fibro.

Dennis, I take generic lovastatin. I don't know what it's the generic

for. My doctor said it was not as strong as Lipitor, so he prescribed

twice the dosage. It's working very well to keep my cholesterol around

150. I thought that Lipitor was supposed to be going generic, but then

I thought the same about Ambien, and that hasn't happened yet.

And Lovastatin is available from WalMart's $4 plan! Pravastatin is on the

list also. Maybe that can work out! We'll talk to her doctor next week.

Thanks a real bunch for the info, that's what the board is all about,

helping each other when needed.

That's wonderful, Dennis. Just ask the doctor about the strength of

lovastatin as compared to Lipitor. I was taking 20mg of Lipitor, and my

doctor prescribed 40mg of lovastatin. I notice on WalMart's list that

they have only the 10mg and the 20mg listed. Maybe pravastatin would be

an option; they have the 10, 20, and 40mg listed. When I see my doctor

in February, I'll ask him about pravastatin.

I had been wondering if anyone on here had tried WalMart's $4 plan.

Just be careful. Sam's club $4 plan and my grocery's $5 plan are for

quantity of 30. It you take 2 tab daily then you pay $8 or $10 for

it.

We plan on going through the list of meds tomorrow since Betty picked up the

latest list of meds and see which ones might help us. Then, with that list

in hand, she will call her doc and run them by him, hoping one of them will

help. I would think most anything will be better than the cost of the brand

names. I'm waiting for them to offer Enbrel, Humira, and Remicade. It could

happen, couldn't it?

My dad had high cholesterol, and inoperable heart blockages. We put

him on Dean Ornish's program (Reversing Heart Disease book), and his

cholesterol went down to 180 within 3 months. He is still alive and

it's 15 years later! It worked for him...with no drugs. Just a

lifestyle change...sometimes hard to do...

That was a sarcastic remark about the $4 program from WalMart. It does seem

that they can do almost anything they make up their mind to do, so it may

happen. All they have to do is buy out the manufacturers.

Have you done any research on taking niacin for cholesterol? It's a B vitamin

you know. And it works and is a heck of a lot cheaper and better on the body

than the cholesterol drugs. You might want to look into it.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions, folks. We're going to try one of

the WalMart $4 drugs and see if it works. If it does, it will be a big

savings for us.
