I started taking advair since this fall. i was really sick with

cheat cold, sore throat, stuffy nose the works. I did not have the

flu shot so naturally, having asthma, my symptoms were worse. I had

about 6 asthma attacks before taking Advair 250/50. I sent to an

asthma doctor nhe recommended this to me. Yes it helped. I still had

about 3 asthma attacks while i was sick.

What i noticed was voice loss: squeaky voice, straining. I just

thought it was me being sick. when i got better i noticed my

breathing more. It takes me so long to eat or drink everything! It

feels like there is pressure on my chest or the need to burp in

order for me to feel better. I continue eating and it starts again.

I didnt understand it at first but now i do. It has to be advair

becuase i never elt like i had to burp so bad and stop doing my

normal tasks.

I try to take Advair 1 everyday instead of twice a day. Today my

sibling seen on the news that Advair is causing more deaths then

helping asthmatics.

SO SHOULD I STOP TAKING IT ALTOGETHER? OR SWITCH TO SOMETHING ELSE?

IF SO WHAT?

Legally noone here can tell you to stop taking your meds, that is for you and your doctor to discuss.

Not that this is you but for what it is worth, I often see that once a person is diagnosed with asthma any time something in the chest is going on it is automatically assumed to be an asthma problem. Has your doctor considered reflux/heartburn? Just a thought. The advair may be making this worse especially if you are not taking it correctly, which is easy to do and may explain the voice thing. Be sure to rinse and spit and follow the instructions. Worse with eating though sounds like more than a med thing. Try taking enzymes with your meals. For A blood types I tend to find that reflux is more related to lack of enzymes than over acid stomach. Whatever is going on you certainly shoudl try something else with your doctor. There are lots of options even medically, so why take the risks if this is really just a bad med for you? Talk to your doctor.

Advair is two medications in one, Flovent and Serevent. The black

box warning on Advair is there because of the Serevent component of

Advair. Just plain Serevent alone has this warning as well but the

Flovent does not. Also another long acting beta 2 against bronchiol

dilator medication called Foradil has this warning. The makers of

Advair say that the Flovent mixed with the Serevent (steroid with

long acting beta 2 against bronchiol dilator) will decrease the

chance of this side effect. In other words, Advair is safer then

Flovent alone.

Everything you put in your body has side effects, even water. If you

or you child is having side effects that you feel you can not live

with, tell you doctor. He/she may be able to give you something else

to use.
