I agree to stay on your meds as needed BUT I can say that I have found an online wellness store that really helped me with my asthma. I was diagnosed at 3 yrs old and was on daily meds - 2 albuterol inhalers a month and advair 2x day. Singulair made my asthma worse so I couldn't take it. I am now 39 years old. I've had so many attacks that I've almost died several times. At one point my lung capacity dropped to 14% because of a reaction to feathered pillows. My concern was when I had children. I know that most of the stuff helps but I also don't believe that we have to pollute our bodies with chemicals that we really don't know if they are going to kill us or not. I was working for Glaxo Wellcome when they came out with Advair so I was well aware of the side effects. Since medicine is not an exact science, everyone does not react the same way to every drug.

In August of 2004 I found a company called Melaleuca. They are a wholesale shopping club that offers a more natural line of consumable products that we all use daily. I found out more about them and chose to change my shopping habits. I started ordering from them and removed the toxic chemicals from my house and out of my body. Since I have switched from the normal products offered from J & J, Procter and Gamble and others, the ones I usually bought at my grocery store or at Wal-mart, I have almost eliminated my need for any asthma medications. In fact I take my advair about 2x a week instead of 2x day and I have only had to take my albuterol inhaler 2x since August 2004! I continue to see my Dr and he can't believe my progress. I also started taking their vitamin line since it is also patented and that also helps my system stay healthy. One of the keys here was since my body no longer had to fight off the toxins I was breathing in my own home, from the out-gassing of my cleaners and such, my body could help fight off the allergens that were triggering my asthma.

Now I do realize this is a disease that I will continue to have for the rest of my life. I've had it for 36 yrs. And I do realize that the meds help me when I need them, but I NOW know that our environment triggers some of our problems and we do have control over some of those area's. All I did was make a choice. I could continue to use the products from the companies that were making my symptoms worse, not to mention what they were doing to my kids, or I could make a choice to take control of my health, life and future of everyone living in my home.

I chose my health, life and future. I've never been more grateful for being introduced to this company and I will NEVER go back to the grocery store or Wal-mart brands.

If you and your parents want more information on the company, let me know and I'll get the information to you. You can also look them up on the BBB, they were honored with the 2005 Hall of Fame award.

Hope

Well then you are ignorant and irresponsible. Do you not understand that the member who asked the question was a CHILD? A MINOR? I tried herbal supplements once. Ended up in the ER fighting for my life.

Re: hey guys im new

Sue, I see that you are your usual positive self on this list. But, I guess we're used to it by now, and I will not lower myself by calling anyone stupid.

Had I not explored other options, I'd be continuing to take a bunch of meds that I no longer need. I'd suggest trying herbal supplements in addition to your meds, and see if you find yourself needing your rescue meds less often (as I did). After a period of time, I tried reducing my other meds, a little at a time, all the while monitoring what was happening to me. My lungs are now healthier than they have ever been. I am off asthmacort, serevent and allegraD, and I'm breathing better than ever.

My opinion is, try anything and everything.

I've had Viral bronchitis since 2000, and finally diagnosed in May, 2005.

First off, Congrats on graduating from high school! :)

Second, check with your doctor to see if he/she would recommend it first.

I have had the best results with diet and eliminating my triggers,

which in my case were many food allergies. I am following the book "

The allergy and asthma cure " but Dr. Fred Pescatore. Both my

Primary DR. and Pulmonologist know that I have been doing this and

have been impressed with the results. I am still taking advair, but

have been able to lower the dose. I don't think it is irresponsible

to inform people of things that have helped you, on the contrary, I

think its irresponsible not to. This is not to say that everyone is

the same and you should work with your doctor before changing

anything drastically. And no, I don't agree that " just take your

meds and you will be just fine " For me this has been far from true

and I think that a lot of asthmatics would agree.

I don't think anyone would suggest someone just going off of their meds but if you can eliminate the triggers and use natural means of boosting your immune system. Then if you don't need your meds as much, then talk to your doctor about reducing. I'm not sure I see how that can be dangerous. What did you take and why? Did you use it in accordance with a doctor's supervision?

We use Melaleuca as well. My son has not had an asthma attack in about 6 months. We had some rough pollen and he got sinusitis on the verge of bronchitis. Still no breathing problems. I am thrilled.

Hey , my name is Becca, I am 20, I also have asthma I take albuterol, advair and singulair also. I also have a home nebulizer if i need it. Why are you looking at changing meds? if i may ask, is yours not working, i am just wondering, have you talk to your parents or doctor about this what do they seem to say, I am just curious, Becca Monkies4god04@... Wanting to be a friend.

Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Just radically better.

Sue, my was 18-19 when a senior in high school. may be 18 or close to it. She is then quite capable and legally able to make her own treatment decisions. Don't jump to conclusions so fast.
