Quoted from Donna: "I haven't completely followed this thread, but these responses sure sound negative and judgmental!" So Donna, have you read the entire thread? If not, you shouldn't be judging us, afterall, aren't you saying we're negative and judgmental? You may want to get your facts straight. I agree with Sue 100%. And by the way, this is America, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so back off. And just for the record, I'm awaiting answers to rather important questions from the father of the year. He's not once answered any of my questions that may help in his quest for pity from readers. He's only stated that he doesn't give

the daughter (8 year old) her meds while she's with him 12 weeks of the year. Isn't that moronic? He also indicated he's on state insurance so he's probably got nothing better to do than sit and whine about his ex who happens to be the carrier of the health insurance for the little girl. If you happen to read the whole thread and know anything about asthma, I'm sure you'll agree. If you choose not to, well, you too are entitled to your opinion, but your opinion of the conversation will have no bearing on what I post.SueNY wrote: First off all, please learn how to properly reply and post.. Secondly, read the entire thread and you'll see why we are coming down so hard on the ignorant moron of a father. Re: Re: need advice for our daughter tracey gray wrote:

First of all let me say for the most part this group has really been a great help and can answer alot of questions and offer alot of support. Second of all please allow me to say that we all have enough negativity in our lives CAN WE PLEASE keep it out of the posts?? For goodness sake we are all adults here let us please interact as such. Let's offer advice not criticism or be judgmental...let's encourage and not discourage. Everyone has a right to their own opinion and lifestyles. Jessi

This might help you understand why you can't just discontinue the

use of your daughter's prescribed asthma medicines:

Niferex is an iron supplement, here's some advice I found on it:

This preparation contains the mineral, iron, which is necessary for

the formation and function of red blood cells. It is these cells

that carry oxygen through the blood stream. In tiny amounts, the

mineral is also necessary for the chemical functioning of many of

the bodies' cells. Iron will upset the stomach, so her stomach pain

and aches are probably due to the iron supplement. (prescribed)

Singulair is a prescription medicine approved to help control

asthma in adults and children as young as 12 months and to help

relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergies in adults and children as

young as 2 years.

Singulair To Help Control Asthma

Singulair is used to prevent asthma symptoms. Singulair works by

blocking the action of substances that cause inflammation, fluid

retention, mucous secretion, and constriction in your lungs.

Singulair is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor

or pharmacist for more information.

Singulair is used in mild to moderate asthma to decrease the

symptoms of asthma and the number of acute asthma attacks. However,

Singulair should not be used to relieve an asthma attack that has

already started. This medicine is also used to treat the symptoms

(sneezing, runny nose, itching, wheezing) of seasonal (short-term)

allergies.

Singulair is a prescription medicine approved to help control asthma

in adults and children as young as 12 months and to help relieve the

symptoms of seasonal allergies in adults and children as young as 2

years. Singulair should NOT be used for the fast relief of acute

asthma attacks or to prevent or treat asthma made worse by exercise.

You should still have rescue medication available and continue to

take your other asthma medications unless your doctor tells you to

stop. For asthma, Singulair should be taken once a day, in the

evening as prescribed, whether or not you have asthma symptoms. If

your symptoms get worse or you need to increase the use of your

rescue inhaler, call your doctor at once.

Zyrtec is an antihistamine which provides relief of allergy symptoms

such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes, sneezing, itching and

hives

FLOVENT HFA Inhalation Aerosol is a long-term maintenance treatment

for asthma in patients 4 years of age and older.

Albuterol is used to prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of

breath, and troubled breathing caused by asthma, chronic bronchitis,

emphysema, and other lung diseases. Albuterol inhalation also is

used to prevent breathing difficulties (bronchospasm) during

exercise. Albuterol is in a class of medications called beta-

agonists. It works by relaxing and opening air passages in the

lungs, making it easier to breathe.

---- and if you want to see someone change their opinion or lifestyle, you will do it by being kind, making suggestions and giving encouragement. You won't do it by snapping at them as if they just stepped on your foot.

Someone else that didn't read the whole thread. I guess you're missing the point........this man stopped giving his 8 year old daughter prescribed medicines because he thinks his ex wife is overdosing her! Where is his kindness toward his daughter? Where's the encouragement to try and come to a reasonable resolution with his ex wife? He didn't just step on my foot, but I'll tell you something right now, he's being harmful to a child, and truth me known, Child Protective Services could/should intervene. So yes, accuse me of being snappy, but when a child's life is at stake, I will do my part. I won't sit back and just watch it happen before my eyes. You can if you want, but you'll be the first to say when you read something on the news, "what if I'd......" ponies wrote: ---- and if you want to see someone change their opinion or lifestyle, you will do it by being kind, making suggestions and giving encouragement. I agree with Jessi, NOBODY responds to hostility. I see where this

father and mother are being highly irresposible, but you won't change

his actions by angry accusations. I was really utilizing the info I

got from this group and really feeling supportive until these last few

bitter posts. Now I am sure you will fire your negativity toward me.

Imagine me disagreeing with you when you say nobody responds to hostility? I do believe some do. Sometimes you have to be aggressive and honest to get a point across. I bet if nothing else he'll actually read the posts and think twice and realize his daughter's life is much more important than trying to prove a point to his ex wife. I don't see where you or Jessi are saying negativity is a problem. I guess I'm scared for the child and think asthma needs to be taken more seriously.lemoncurls wrote: I agree with

On the other hand I can also see his point in not giving the medications if

there's no pharmacy and no prescribing doctor indicated, no letter from the

doctor explaining the diagnosis or the medications, or not even a name/phone

number for the doctor in the event of an emergency. I work in a private

school, and if we were given medications in non-labeled packaging without

documentation from a prescribing doctor we could not legally dispense them.

I would be very uncomfortable giving a child any medication without it being

labeled and without having contact information for the doctor.

I agree that this man and mother need to Wake Up and not put their

child in a more harmful situation. I don't think he understands the

magnitude of this disease. But if it was me, the minute I saw

someone call me a " moron " I would stop reading the posts. He

obviously is in the dark about what to do and reaching out. I think

he needs to take his daughter to a local doc ASAP as you first

suggested.
